Here are some pics of the SRC I mentioned in another post. As you can see, the wood is awful but you can't see that the bore is awful too. But it shoots ok with jacketed bullets. Just 7 inches high.
The little group of three rounds near the top was shot at about 40 yards but the aiming point was the big red dot in the middle of the target. It is what it is.

Theres a site with some specific info about sight heights for the different chamberings. Youll have to look a bit in the various sections, he mentiones it in a couple places what the sight heights were for the different calibers of early type carbines. Each section takes a while to load, but once done, has some great pictures and info.
