rossi 92 357 subsonic accuracy
Hi The forum. Just logged on with a specific question if anyone can help.
Looking to get a Rossi 92 in 357 mag. Purpose is subsonic cast loads, its important to me to get something accurate say 2" at 50 yards with a 158 grain bullet.
Is accuracy with this heavy a bullet at slow speeds realistic with the rossi slow twist 1:30?
Why on earth did they make it a 1:30 anyway..

Welcome to the great levergun bunch. I can't answer your question but there are many loaders that can. I have a Rossi 92 SRC in .357 and it will shoot all of my loads. 38spl swc and .357 swc loads and all jacketed bullets.

I cannot answer your question ...yet. I have several different powders loaded in 38.special cases with.158 grain Lee boolits, sitting downstairs.for my 1980's puma. I unfortunately have a badly infected.foot and will be a.couple three weeks until.I will be able to accuracy test them
Gimme a few weeks and we will both know.

3 grains of Bullseye or 3.5 of 231 will fit your needs perfectly. For some real fun, try 2 gr. of Bullseye ....will sound like a .22 short.----6
Re: rossi 92 357 subsonic accuracy
Thanks , it would be interesting to see but I think your old puma will have the faster twist, maybe 1:18 from memory? Its this darned new twist in the Rossi's 1:30 being the problem. I knew I should have got one 10 year agofordwannabe wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2018 12:12 am I cannot answer your question ...yet. My mouse fanny burp load for my 357 mag trapper (16") is a cast 158 SWC nudged by 4.2 gr of Trailboss. I will send a pic to anyone that can post pics of a target with carbine and load data including chrono velocities. 950 fps and 2-1/4" at 100 yds five shot group.

Hi welcome to the Levergun Enablers forumn. I have a Puma 20" 357 I bought in 2005. Have shot couple hundred 158gr RNFP's at a chronoed 810 fps.. Killed lots of rocks and cans up to 200 yards or so. Eyes aint that great anymore but when I benched it at hundred yards there were no tumblers. Do you have a companion revolver for it? Todd/3leg

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Todd don't forget the Pearson mount is available for your gun also. I know it isnt traditional but with not great eyes a red dot or scope helps.

Les Staley & 3leggedturtle....let us know your twist rates....!
My little 16" 357 Mag shoots 38 Spl light loads to 2" at 50 yards with open (Marbles Bullseye) sights, but I never measured the twist......will do at next opportunity and report back.

Ford Sir, I have plenty of scopes and red dots on levers, but can't justify the over $100 price of that mount. it also my woods walking gun, still shoot good enough up 75 yards or so. Doc, it'll be late February b4 I get back home. Todd/3leg

Re: rossi 92 357 subsonic accuracy
Thanks for the reply and interest fellas. I'd be interested in hearing about the twists our there if anyone can measure. Here's a link to folks with both 1:16" twist Rossi 92's and the current 1:30" twist rate rossi's. Its possible the tighter twist may have been special releases or just earlier guns, no one appears to be 100% sure. I'd sure like a 1:16 myself anyways.

Re: rossi 92 357 subsonic accuracy
No disrespect taken, $60 ain't bad, will look at it when I get home next month. I had the receiver d+t'ed for a Williams peep sight. Now it the flashlight mount would be under $50 I'd really be happy.. Todd/3legfordwannabe wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2018 7:08 am Hey Todd, If you can still get er done, why change right? Re: rossi 92 357 subsonic accuracy
Today I checked online and the Interarms 92 have a 1- 30 twist rate. That is what mine is. Does anybody have a light load with 158 grain and Unique or Universal ???

Re: rossi 92 357 subsonic accuracy
I have 2 Rossi's, a 20" carbine and a 24" octagon rifle. Lee 158 Tumble lube SWC or RN 158 and 5 grs of Unique runs approximately 1050 fps out of both guns and averages 3-4" 100 yd groups. All the newer rossi's are 30" twist and IME the Lee 125RF or the Lee 120TC(9mm bullet)are the most accurate out of my rifles.Does anybody have a light load with 158 grain and Unique or Universal ???

Thanks all for those replies, so 158 grain looks like where its at for heavy options, and it will work with the right load.
