New to the forum
Hello, I'm new to the forum and thought I'd introduce myself before jumping in on existing threads. I live in Southeastern Pennsylvania and like leverguns.
My latest acquisition is this Winchester 1892 in .38 WCF (.38-40), made in 1895. I just got it from Simpson's Ltd. and haven't shot it yet. The bore looks good but with some cleaning rod wear near the muzzle.
Interestingly, it bears post-1952 German nitro proof marks on the barrel, receiver, and bolt.

Welcome aboard!
nice rifle you have, some range time will tell you if the muzzle wear is cosmetic or detrimental, a quick& simple recrown normally does the trick! Brownells sells fairly inexpensive crown cutter with changeable pilots for bore diameters.
The German proofs are interesting!

Welcome here.
Bunch of fellow enablers here, to help you get in debt and your spouse angry, by encouraging you to buy more:
...... a) antique leverguns - pricey due to their history
...... b) modern leverguns - pricey due to their non-assembly-line nature
...... c) other 'associated' firearms - pricey due to the fact that you buy lots of them
........ i) single-action revolvers - requisite with the leverguns
........ ii) double-action revolvers - so you can shoot faster
........ iii) semi-auto, short-barreled rifles with suppressors and laser sights - because
.......... A. they are FUN, and
.......... B. you can prove to the mall-ninjas and SWAT-wannabes that you are a REAL man
Bottom line...............you have entered the realm of DOOM.................

Welcome to the fire !
That's one honest-looking Winchester 1892 Rifle (model, as opposed to the more common carbine), fer sure !
Please remember to post a range report on it when you get a chance.
Good luck with it !

Welcome to this world of enablers. Like JerryB my 92 is 32WCF and an octagon barrel, crescent butt, full magazine rifle. Oh I've had others but that's what I have right now. Don't worry much about the bore, re-lining is readily available and I'm sure you can figure out some way to pay for it. Kids don't really need all those expensive sneakers.

Re: New to the forum
Welcome to the insanity! Looks a lot like my 1909 version of the same thing only in 25-20. It was relined when I got it, hence a little cheaper than if it had been original. The external finish is just like yours. Wish it could talk...what stories!! Now when it speaks ground squirrels and ruffed grouse shudder in far
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

Welcome! Nice looking 92.
The 38-40 is my favorite of the "pistol" cartridge chamberings. It's a great cartridge. Let us know how she shoots.

"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
Re: New to the forum
Thanks for the warm welcome.
As for encouragement to spend money, the 1892 cost a lot less than this:
It's a 1915 - 1917 Wartime Commercial C96 that I picked up in December 2016. Supposedly a WW2 GI bringback but considering that the innards are nearly mint, I wouldn't be surprised to learn it came back with a doughboy after WW1. It had several decades worth of preservative grease congealed inside. And yeah, I shoot it.

Welcome to the forum from Berks county Pa.
Watch yourself around here, nicest bumch of enablers on the net. Before you know it you will have a safe or two of old leverguns and it will all seem perfectly natural.
