Mattel toys
A while back Pitchy put up a thread on his Mattel belt-buckle derringer. We got to talking about the other Mattel handguns that fired Shoot-n-Shells with Greenie Stick'm Caps. I just ran across this photo Dad took of me on Christmas Day, 1961, wearing my brand-new Dick Tracy Snubnose .38 in the swell shoulder holster. You can see I was somewhat pleased (chuffed, the Brits say) with the situation.

Cool beans Bill, looks like your all business
I picked up a shootin shell and a fanner 50, no bullets, sticky caps or roll caps yet.
I can`t believe how hard it is to find perforated roll caps nowdays.

Pitch, every once in a while I see roll caps when I least expect them. If you have a Sportsman's Warehouse near, they may have some near the toy guns. I found a cap gun today in my stuff -- a "Hubley Cowpoke" made of pot metal in Lancaster Pennsylvania. I need a few rolls m'self!
Re: Mattel toys
Thanks, the fanner 50 needs the roll caps with the hole between the charge so it rolls through the gun, the shootin shell uses the stick em caps I just ordered some of those.
The only caps I could find in Walmart are cheap narrow things for the new fakey guns.
They must think caps are to dangerous.
Hubley`s are cool as are the Nichols Stallion 45 and the Nichols have screws in them so ya can fix them which is more than I can say for the Mattels they're riveted.

Re: Mattel toys
My favorite gun I had as a kid the Johnny seven-seven guns in one
Re: Mattel toys
I have the Mattel "Shootin' Shell" rifle/pistol set I had as a kid. You can still find ammo for them, but it is expensive...

Re: Mattel toys
Wow, that site has a lot of caps for sale. It looks to me like almost all the caps I bought were Kilgores.
Ray, I had forgotten about Joe Jitsu. "Excuse preese."

Re: Mattel toys
Being deprived of real handguns I recently bought a cheap plastic cap pistol, the sort that fire ring caps, following instructions on YouTube I loaded it up with plastic BBs and for about 20 minutes I had a fun but erratic little shooter, then it broke....
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.
Re: Mattel toys
Here`s another fanner 50 we got, it was in rough shape the hand on the trigger that cocks the hammer was worn off.
Drilled the rivets off to get it apart, then drilled a hole in the trigger where the hand was and inserted a steel rod flattened on the end.
Fought for over a hour putting it back together, hammer spring is a bugger then glued it back together and now it works perfect.
Kinda a dull finish on this one.

Re: Mattel toys
I miss the smell of cap gun smoke!
Re: Mattel toys
I was a strange child. As I am a strange adult.
I hate noise, which everyone finds strange, for someone who's life revolvers around shooting.
I would wear ear muffs to shoot cap guns as a kid.
Or stick a finger in one ear, then cock my head to the side and raise my shoulder up to cover my other ear.

Slow is just slow.
