I watched Wind River last night with the wife. Violence was a bit more graphic that I had anticipated but overall, a pretty good movie.
What really shocked me was ... I think it was pro-gun. I mean, for example, it had Renner's character explaining proper BB-gun handling to his son. It had him hand loading with a mix of various brands of tools ... including a Hornady automated powder measure. And in several scenes, including the plot climax, he's carrying and shooting some kind of stainless Marlin (336 or 1895) in what looks to be 45-70 but I suppose might be .444 Marlin. This lever action actually saves the day.
I know someone here will recognize the model and be able to tell me that it's definitively only chambered in 45-70. It might have actually been a customize gun due to the enlarged lever loop. But the rounds just seem to have an aspect ratio that leads me to .444 Marlin. Just a bit long and thin for 45-70, but hey, I'm getting old and my eyes may be "off" these days.
I just feel like I've been cheated out of my normal dose of anti-gun bias from a Hollywood film.

Re: Wind River Marlin
I believe the lever rifle used in the movie was a Marlin Model 1895SBL in 45-70 .

Re: Wind River Marlin
It is the 1895SBL. Paused the trailer and got a good look. The rounds in the buttstock ammo carrier are 45/70.

Wind River has an interesting story... at least according to those of us who live here.
The most interesting of it is.... it wasn't shot here.
It's not like there isn't a zillion acres of actual, uninhabited, Wind River Basin to take footage of, but... Hollywood.
Still, much good about it has been said here.
