327 Henry
I know a few of you guys mentioned you were getting a 327 Henry, haven't seen any reports yet.
So have you guys received them yet? How do they shoot? What kind of velocities are you getting?

Re: 327 Henry
I just this week received two of the big boys in 327 RM. This is the brass like receiver version with the 20" octagon barrel. I haven't had time to even shoot it. But, the plan is to see if I can work up a load to be used for the NRA pistol cal. Leveraction Silhouette game.
This gun is really front heavy but for the game that is a plus. We'll see.

Still trying to get one. I need to get with my LGS and make sure my name is still on the list to have them order it for me.

I have a steel 20 inch on order.
Re: 327 Henry
I had quite a bit of interest in them early on but Henry has been so slow in bringing them out I've kind of lost the interest I had. Almost thinking, what's up?

Re: 327 Henry
I do know they had to wait on some parts to finish the two I just got. They had shipped the first batch sometimes in the spring and it appears they all sold quickly. But, like most of the manufacturers they have limited machining equipment, so to make another batch right away would require shutting down the equipment and re-tooling back to the 327 mag. These production schedules are planned ahead and very seldom changed.

For you guys that know about these things, wouldn't one of these .327 rifles make a great turkey gun where they're allowed?
Re: 327 Henry
I have the brass Big Boy in .357....it's awfully heavy, and the metal butt slippery, but a really good shooter. The 16.5" Steel would be a better fit for me.

Re: 327 Henry
I'm lucky enough to have a Marlin 1894 in 32-20, so will stick with that, but the 327 would be nice....!
I think the older but tapered 'hyphenated' cartridges feed more reliably through levergun though, so if price and availability were the same, I'd want a set of 44-40, 38-40, and 32-20 for my 'short-action' leverguns, instead of 44 Mag, 357 Mag, and 327 Mag.... However the real-world made it easier to have the 'modern' versions of the first two.

Re: 327 Henry
The .327 shoots the same diameter bullet as does the .32-20, but at a higher pressure out of a straight wall case. The .327 gives higher velocities. It probably does not feed as well as the old tapered case, but it is a delight to reload. Of the 11 cartridges which I reload, the .327 is the easiest.

If I were to spring for a new rifle it would be for something shooting this .327 Federal. What a lovely thing: a 32/20 made of very durable brass that sizes with a carbide sizer. Sweet!

Re: 327 Henry
I really enjoy my Single Seven in .327 Fed. Like Earl and Piller say, it's super easy to reload and a very accurate little cartridge. What I'm most interested in is will the Henry feed the .32 Short, Long and H&R Magnum. Not that I'm giving up my .32WCF 92s anytime soon. But I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one.

Re: 327 Henry
If 327 Mag brass is like 32 H&R brass, it definitely is sturdier than 32-20 brass. You gotz ta be very extra-careful not to crush the mouth of 32-20 cases.

Re: 327 Henry
Look again. .32-20 HV loads out of a rifle are much faster than .327 Federal. Granted, the. 327 loads are out of a pistol and the .32-20 are out of a rifle, so the velocity will be closer but still.....piller wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2017 12:40 amThe .327 shoots the same diameter bullet as does the .32-20, but at a higher pressure out of a straight wall case. To me, the only advantage of a .327 is you can shoot shorter .312 calibers and no one is currently making a .32-20 double action revolver that will handle the HV loads. The shorter .312s would probably not feed well though the .327 rifle.

Re: 327 Henry
My 1917 Winchester 92 rifle with the 24 inch barrel just dearly loves to spit out those 85grain XTP bullets over that load of 2400 powder. It is a fine load, took out a mad Rottweiler bitch dog at about 50 yards. She was coming after us in a pasture full of cattle, and the man that owned them said hit if could she had cost him a couple of calves. That little bullet did what it was supposed to do. Reckon that a .327 would too, maybe but I know what the 32wcf will do.

And these are with powders optimized for pistols. Since the rifle loads for the .327 are not yet available, this is about the closest way to compare apples to apples. Seems to show some very similar velocities. As soon as the load data for the .327 is available for rifles, we should be able to do a more realistic comparison.

Yes, their theoretical charts show the velocity getting close, as it should with similar charge weight and barrel lenght.piller wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2017 10:13 pm http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/327mag.html

A 96/327 would be great but that would require a complete resurrection. At least the pistol caliber M 77s are still being made. Ruger is going to announce a new firearm tomorrow so at least there's hope.

Re: 327 Henry
Paco's .32-20 article lists numerous loads at the pressure of the .30 Carbine. This will match any .327 Federal loads.
Thicker brass and carbide dies, though, make the .327 easier to reload.
If the .327 doesn't take off, brass may become a concern in long run.

I have an SP101 in .327 and it has more blowback that any revolver I have ever had. Makes it not so fun to shoot.

0.010" will pass all the way through, between the front of the cylinder and the forcing cone. 0.018 will enter the left side. Which, me being right handed, is the side directed at me. I really don't know what pressure the Factory Federal Ammo runs, but I'm guessing it's near 40K.
I have not shot reduced loads or lesser cartridges through this, yet.

Never measured it, but PillHer's SP101 in .327 has no noticeable blow-by. I could be wrong, but it sounds as if you might have a factory error.

I would tend to agree with you, but a trusted friend said the worst blowback revolver he ever owned was a .327 Mag. Not sure which version he had.
I may need to check the forcing cone and see what it mikes out to. Haven't really had time to play with this one much.

Re: 327 Henry
Just picked up mine from my buddys toy store this morning. Was waiting for a big boy steel in 20 inch. But last week he said he can get one in 16 inch. I told him to get it. I wanted the 16 but didn't like the big loop, but I figure if I don't like I will order the regular lever from Henry .It showed up and I am glad I got the 16 inch , it balances nice. I will break it in tomorrow.
