New Old 1911

Post by Griff »

I built this 1911 back in 1974 with a Bar-Sto barrel, surplus Remington Rand slide, an Interarms receiver I bought and a bunch of GI parts. I sold it in 1995, then bought it back in 2011. It had been rebuilt with a different barrel and a short trigger. It worked, but not quite as well as I remembered. I replaced the grips with a nice set of Hogue wood double diamonds and a medium length trigger. My son then went to town on it, replacing the thumb safety with a beaver-tail version, and a bunch of Wilson internals. I just picked it up from a friend that Cerakote'd™ it.

As it was before refinishing. It worked very well. I even shot a couple of three-gun matches with it. Very accurate and reliable.

And refinished:

Next is to re-install the rear sight and test it.

Very nice. I really like JMB's other gun.

That's a very nice one Griff. I was very active in IPSC back when those mods were being developed. I too built some of them and enjoyed the sport very much.

Looks good. How can you not like a gun which works great when it is exactly as designed, and is easily modified with good quality aftermarket parts to go from a battle ready reliable tool to a race ready fully modified super tool which is ready for combat or self defense or even contests to determine who can put the most accurate shots on target under simulated combat conditions in the shortest time.

Thank you guys, I just came in from running 3 magazines of mixed ammo thru it. Some 230 ball and 200 H&G. Ran all of it flawlessly! Yep, I'm a happy camper! Even started to rain while I was out there. Didn't faze me in the least, just wiped it off when I came in and no worries!
