I think it deserves it's own... even tho' it appears that a bunch of folks are cowardly... I might not be able to shoot for a November score... SWMBO told me I need to actually do something to generate an income this coming month... I will if I can get a day off and to a range... out there in the wide open spaces of the US... Griff I am going to try and find a place to shoot. I will probably use my 1917 Winchester 1892 32wcf rifle. My grandson Scrateshooter from Texas is here for a visit and I told him about the match. Reckon he will try it too.

Okay, once we declared the winner for the October Shoot (Shasta 95?) will you take that thread down and post a November shoot?

Yep. I've submitted a request to AmBraCol to replace the October Match post with the new November Match post.

November has been a bit thin. Still keen to roll over to the December shoot. November has been been rubbish here with earthquakes, floods and strong winds. Not the best for calm target shooting!

Here it is "summer" today it is windy but I went out for a shoot anyway. I read that folk in the US have been experiencing some extreme weather conditions. I cannot imagine shooting in freezing conditions would be fun! I managed to get nine on the paper, I don't know where the 10th went!

I took my son with me. Here is what he shot with the 22 with a scope and the .357 Leveraction from the bench out to 50m. So I can't blame the rifle.

Okay, I found the link in the Postal match post to be defective for December... found another and edited to provide a new link. 3 days & a bit (if you're in the US) left to enter!

I'm off to the range to shoot mine, and sight in some new loads for the Sharps, and the '66 Centennial with it's new Lyman sights...

New sights and a new load for the Sharps was sure an exercise in humility! Took 5 shots to get on paper... and then five more to walk it up into the 9-ring. After two more shots ran out of the 300grain loaded bullets. I'd loaded 5 rounds with 5744 and 5 with Goex "Cartridge". Pretty consistent between the two. Then fired off about 11 more rounds of the same Goex "Cartridge", but a heavier charge weight, and a 350 grain bullet. All those shots went lower than the lighter charge and lighter bullet, which also was far less recoiling!

Then new Winchester .30-30 1866 Centennial mdl 94 with new Lyman sights, front and rear was even more perplexing... 25 rounds but all were very high. Need a higher front sight. Kentucky windage is not good for accuracy... but finally managed a 2-½" group of 4 rounds about 6" above the bull! Got no clue as to where the 5h round went

Okay. The December Postal Match is closed, your's truly won!!! I'm sure that was only because the likes of Shasta, Sixgun or several others didn't enter!

The January Match Post is up, (I'm sure AmbraCol will have it in the 'Stickies' section soon)! This is your challenge to get off yer duffs and enter! If your target ain't all that great, no worries, we all know that shiverin' in the cold of January is likely to affect your shootin'!! :P

I didn't have a pistol-caliber repeating lever along yesterday, which was too bad because the cloudy-bright light was just right for these old eyes. I could see sights and target all at the same time: had forgot how nice that is! But I had along the 44/40 C Sharps Hi-Wall I got from fellow levergunner Mike Armstrong a couple of years ago. It was really bouncing the tin cans nicely so I thought I'd put up one of the levergun targets and see how I was really doing -- nothing like seeing results on paper. So here is how I did -- wish I could shoot one of the Rossi's this well!

Some nice shooting you did on that last one, Claybob. While Griff is relaxing the gun requirements I think I'll take a couple Marlin 30/30's out and have a go with them. I can't believe it is just you and me competing with each other this month! Spring has started to sproing here in semi-sunny Central Oregon and I can get out fairly regularly though I have been dodging rain showers and wind. Especially wind!

When I saw how fun and informative this 50 yard off-hand shooting was going to be I ordered a nice wad of those targets so I wouldn't have to print 'em (takes a lot of ink to make a good black). So I hope we keep the competition going -- I don't know what everybody is doing that keeps them from taking a few shots at a 50 yard target...

Ok, I finally got a couple weeks of practice in... and posted my scores for the June 2017 match. Quite the surprise to me... I've shot groups like that at 100 yards when sitting, but have never done that off-hand. The gauntlet is down.

I was going to post the targets I shot late yesterday... but decided to get up and shoot again today when the wind was supposed to be lighter... glad I did... yesterday's score were in the low 90s for the rifle and the mid 80s for the pistol caliber. After a good sleep and breakfast, I gathered my stuff and set up in the pasture. Shot five rounds off the bench from each gun... The pistol caliber was centered exactly, out of the 5, I had 3 X's. The rifle caliber was like 8 in the x-ring, all in the 10. The best I've been able to shoot in months. Clean glasses also helped.

Does the target have to be printed in black?

My ink is low and I guess it mixed other colors when printing and the black came out orange-ish. Would that be an unfair advantage?

I shot a black one and an orange one. I was losing light fast and I can say that the orange one was much easier to see (at least at that time of day).

The black one I was having trouble seeing my shots so adjusting was more difficult.

I only had enough light to get two targets shot. My trusty 92 shoots good when I do my part. Its also prob. my most shot gun. I really enjoy it.

No, there's going to be an October match... but, not quite in the present format. I'll see how the next couple of months go... participation wise, and advise accordingly. The October Match will not tax my math skills. No scoring rings or Xs. The new match should be up on Sunday, Oct 1.

I wish I had seen this thread when it started. Offhand levergun shooting is my only match that I attend (up to 5 matches per month). I am not very good with the pistol caliber rifles and the extra incentive of this forum match would have given me motivation to get to the range more often. My primary pistol caliber rifle is a Rossi 92 in .357 mag..Then I have a Winchester model 65 rebarreled from .218 BEE to .32-20..Currently scratch building a Marlin model 1889 in .25-20 ..And I have got a Marlin model 1888 that I need to reline the barrel , get target sights on it and see what it will do....I am telling you I live and breath this offhand levergun stuff..Just completely love it...I am just not good at it.I do a bit better with my homebuilt replica of a Marlin 1892 in .22 LR. Occasionally I even win with it.
