Photos - Website beside PhotoBucket - !

Post by JohndeFresno »

This has been discussed before at this site, I believe. But this post has a different twist.

Photobucket, we all know, has become bloated, slow, and troublesome. I cannot even upload a photo at all today - it keeps on reverting to a log-in screen.
But, its links (IMG ..... IMG) allow you to put a photo there that shows up automatically here.

IMGUR was recommended by many on this site and elsewhere. It is a dandy site but all it shares is an http:// link that we have to click on to see an image.

Not good enough.

Is there a website, free or not, that allows one to upload a photo or image, and that allows an IMG link so that the object shows up on the screen when you access Leverguns forum? Like Photobucket, but as it was in "the good old days" before they became bloated and refused to upgrade their server(s)?

John,
I looked around and the over on the Double Gun BBS, there was a recommendation to try jpgbox.com .
It is simple and works and has NO ads!

You, sir, are in error.

With imgur, simply separate the selected pic from the herd via left-clicking on the selected pic.

Once the pic's separated, look at the pic size selections located at the bottom of the menu along the RH side of the segregated pic.

(Medium or large thumbnail works best for a forum like this one)

Once a size is selected, copy either the BBCode or the Direct Link - both located in the same side menu as the sizer - via left-clicking on one to select it or clocking on the "copy" button located to the right of each choice.

The picture code is then "pasted" in your thread - ensuring the copied url has a head code - [ img ] - and a tail code - [/img] - with no spaces between the head/tail code and the url.

The selected pic should propagate (display) after the post is completed/submitted.

I've been using FOTKI to host my photos for years ( www.fotki.com )

I don't recall the annual cost but it is reasonable.

CRS - Thank you! Posted a photo successfully for my "WTS (Shipping Cost Only)... thread:
http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... 71#p796371

Pete - Once again to the rescue. Thank you, too, although I will have to go to the website and see what you are talking about. My brain has decided to take a delayed 4th of July holiday and I am not clearly visualizing what you are talking about; my human computer's random access memory seems a bit slow today. But I will get to work on it.

Jack - Appreciate your help! I will log this as another good site.

Photobuck images will stay where they are, but otherwise it is officially and finally dumped for these other three (2) free, (1) paid great sites.

Cheers and thanks again -

John,

You are welcome.
I looked around on Fotki and found the price is $24 per year for 100 Gigs of storage,
They have other options if you need more space.

Well, Pete - that was falling down simple!

Why don't pipples tell me these things! Extensive, instant functionality after left-clicking the photo. IMGUR wins!

Jack, I haven't tried out all the functionality of your site, but the price is certainly fair. Great stuff.

I LOVE this website!

I'm glad you were successful with imgur - it's nice to have choices..... :)

I can only hope that imgur doesn't get swamped like photobucket, what with all us rats leaving the sinking ship there.

Yup - then I'll use the other or even gladly go to the PAID FOTKI website mentioned by Jack. $24 is quite fair.

Never mind I am downloading my whole bucket :)

Otteray, I am leaving all my old Photobucket stuff there, since removing them will break the links of those images that I have shared here. I still have the free subscription, so I am not out any money just keeping them on that site. If I ever decide to copy them over, I'll still leave them there as well.

The only reason I joined Photobucket was to share photos and images here, and then I only linked a few images elsewhere.

Just a reminder.

Here's the easiest way I've found to transfer PB pics to another pic-hosting website:

In PB, when a pic is isolated, there is a "download" button just below the pic.

Click the "download" button & download a copy of each pic to a new folder in your computer's "pictures" file (to make then easier to find from the new pic host website).

The same pics you downloaded from PB will remain on PB, AND now will also be on your computer.

Then, just use the new pic-hosting website's uploader to move yet a 3rd copy of your pic(s) from your computer to the new host.

So.......if IMGUR is 'free'......who pays for it.....? I doubt it is run by a charity.....

Not trying to be 'negative', but just anticipating when IMGUR might do the same thing as PhotoBucket....start with ads, then hold pictures hostage.

Seems more stable to go with FOTKI....? At least you know where the money comes from.

Wanna get the funny bit? Remember, I posted about my preemptive download and cancellation of my Photobucket account on July 4.

Yep. Closed the account. Gone. Not a part of them any more. Not since July 4.

So, what do I get in my email on July 7, three days after I deleted/closed my account?

Yep.

"WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING
PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*

PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN.

Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level.
UPGRADE NOW"

Golly, wouldn't I have to actually have photos in a photobucket account for them to try to extort from me?

Proof that they have no clue whatsoever.

Thanks, I`ve never done that drag and drop thing before but I might register on that site and give it a try.
