I saw it for what it was before he even started working on it, a high end Japanese carbon steel cutlery knife! He did a wonderful job on it!

He did do a nice job, but it certainly wasn't very rusty. Not a bit of pitting on the blade, and appeared to just be very light surface rust. A lot easier to clean up than a blade with any pitting at all.
