Uberti Model 1873 Stainless Steel Short Rifle

Post by kaschi »

Have any of you known that Uberti makes a stainless steel 1873 Rifle? This was news to me but seems to be the case. There is one for sale on www.gunsinternational.com now (go to "Uberti" on the home page and you can find it there). It's the short rifle version with 18 1/2" half-round/half-octagon barrel.

Never seen one before but why not just post a direct link to the item?

My first thought was 'yuck - why make a historic replica in stainless...?'.....but then I took a look, and that is a beautiful gun...!

I do have a Rossi 24" octagonal 1892 replica, and the finish looks more like pewter than stainless, and it has kinda grown on me as well.

I'm a little ambivalent about it myself. Torn...

I'd sure want to verify with the seller and Uberti that it was indeed stainless, and not in the white.
I have a new Miroku Winchester 1873 short rifle in .357 magnum...I guess that's not very historic either
I've been considering one of the new Miroku/Winchester 1966 short rifles in .44-40. That's one caliber I don't have yet.

Looks OK to me. Why not stainless? It won't be an original no matter what it's made of.

My Thoughts, too. It's not listed on the Uberti website. But, neither are the in-the-whites that they did offer at one time.

Probably just me, but I don't find it appealing at all. Looks like someone polished out an 1873 and it's ready to have finish applied.

Never owned a stainless rifle of any kind. I think they are ugly. Even stainless revolvers..ugly..I do have maybe a half doz. revolvers but are old collector guns gaining 10% a year.

The only time I see the necessity of a stainless gun is if you live off the grid in Alaska.

Or the coast.
Some folks don't care for the shiny guns. This one was bright stainless but got bead blasted.

Had a stainless 92, really liked it. Like the bead blast even better, have a Rem Mod 7 like that.

Like I said, I have mixed feelings about a stainless 1873. But if the rifle in the OP was a .44-40 I'd be real tempted. But, I already have an 1873 in .357. I guess I could sell it and buy a 44 wcf.

I have a Puma m92 made by Rossi from back when they were imported by LSI. It is in stainless and in .357 mag. Has always fed everything well and the stainless while different, grew on me after a while. God Bless.⛪
