Good for you!

I've posted before the AR platform has pretty much turned into a commodity. Generic no-names Frankenstein guns can be bought or pieced together under $500. I've got two in the category and they shoot and function well.

Heckuva price bubble, ain't it? If I had told you the truth 20 years ago about what was going on today, you'd say I was lying.

I got an email ad last week for a complete AR-15 for $399.99 from Wise Arms. I thought the configuration was very desirable but I wasn't in the market so I forwarded the ad to a cousin who has been wanting an AR. She bought it.

Very cool!
I replaced my Colt last week with an AR-15A4, 20" barreled rifle. I'd had a Sporter Lightweight from the early '90s but since the M4 style is so common I wanted something a little different this time. Still have to get a picture of it.

Pretty soon 'everyone' will have an AR, Colt brand or generic, and that is GOOD:
  • Too many of them will be ' out there' to ever make banning or even 'registration' very doable.

So many less-than-fanatic 'gun owners' will have become familiar with them, and unintimidated by them, if not enamored with them, that they will be difficult to 'demonize'.

I have recently bought several Davidson Defense assembled upper receivers from Delta Team Tactical.
The prices are very low. The most recent was a 16" upper with carbon fiber handguard (no bcg) for $160 shipped and a complete upper with bcg & charging handle in 7.62 x 39mm for $270.

I'm having a bit of cheap fun and accumulating some trading material for later. I expect the prices to stabilize on this stuff eventually.

If we do have a social meltdown, it will be AMMO that will be in short supply, not so much guns themselves.

For the same $10,000 family investment, ten AR's ($7,500) and 1,250 rounds ($2,500) of ammo is of far less utility than two AR's ($1,500) and 42,500 rounds ($8,500) if there truly is a meltdown. Or if you have kids, maybe four AR's ($3,000) and 35,000 rounds ($7,000).

Unfortunately possessing that much ammo could get a person in trouble many places. I usually have 3,000 or so rounds, because we all shoot alot, and even that much raises eyebrows from some quarters.

Even most of who are AR junkies are probably more in the $4,000 club if our family all shoots them, even if we have several AR's - four AR's and 4,000 rounds represent about $4,000 in money tied up in EBR's.

Where is this place, what kind of trouble would you get into, who would give you trouble and whose eyebrows would be raised? :o

Thank You, God, for giving me Wyoming and Arizona for my homes.

Just to be ornery, I'm going to truthfully posit that I want several bricks of CB Caps. Not very loud (quieter than many air guns) and useful for urban meat hunting or social work.
I haven't got an EBR, and may or may not. I do have a Ruger Scout in .308. With the scout scope I can no doubt make good shots out to 400 or so. Heck, we made good shots on human-sized targets with our M-16 and iron sights at 300.

Yep - be GLAD you live in America, instead of the left or right coasts. The news has a story every few months of a neighborhood being EVACUATED because some guy has a couple thousand rounds of ammunition "stockpiled" in his basement, and the "authorities" have to get it out of there for the safety of the community...

The post-meltdown problem isn't just "looters and rapists" - it's Men In Uniform, unfortunately - http://www.alloutdoor.com/2017/04/26/ts ... -uniforms/
