as some know my Alaska woods walking bear spray is a 5-1/2" Ruger Redhawk loaded with 405gr hard cast lead. I stumbled across this chart on a backup drive I forgot I have.

I've posted before that this load jacked to something over 1000fps has penetrated 13 one gallon jugs. Not my gun or ammo. This is amazing and nearly unbelieveable performance. Anyone will be hard pressed to duplicate this with any other handgun.

My load, which I have not water tested, runs an average of 942fps. Here's the data.

At the 50yd zero point there is 748 fpe.

At the 100 yd point there is still 700 fpe with a 10 inch drop,
which is heart/lung territory with a hairline spine hold.

This load penetrates firewood at bear confrontation distance like a 45/70.

The value of the load shines when the momentum is taken into account with the TKO calculation.

Another benefit of heavy-for-caliber hard cast is that you can reuse the bullets..... if you can find them.

I've seen your loads in action. I have no idea how they compare to Garrett HammerHead .44 Mag, but those are supposed to have penetrated a big bear head to butt.....When the weather warms up a bit, I have about 20 empty gallon jugs that my CPAP water comes in, that I've been saving. I don't suppose you know anybody that would like to play with them?

Lets do that! Wish you had the bfr for a 'control'. Heh. I wish I had tried a 950fps 45/70 load in it.

You shot that setup out Kelly road back yonder a while.

It's less recoil than the standard huffing and puffing 240 grain white box loads.

It amazes me that big bullets at reasonable velocities = less recoil.

I think this load will sail thru brer bear but hope I never have to find out.

not such a good town gun though. 44 spcls live in it for that.

yes we shot them at 1310 fps! I was thinking of sending them out at 44mag speed, but I can do it with the boat gun.

I didn't post it because it's 94 Mb or something like that.
