Went to a tiny little gun show yesterday. Worth the trip!
It was too nasty out yesterday to go to the range so I decided to take a ride about an hour South to a little show I've never been to ( or heard of) before. The show was about one hundred tables or so and was complete with the typical EBRs, concealed carry pistols and related accessories. Over priced Winchesters, Lugers and Colts. I was looking over a sporterized 1917 Remington Enfield that was priced right when an old Remington auto caught my eye. At first thought it was a cut down Model 11 or maybe a Browning Auto 5 but when I picked it up the CYL and Model 11 R got my heart beating a little faster. No US proof marks unfortunately but it's in great shape and for the price I couldn't leave with out it. I've been chasing one of these for years but most I've come across are cut down long guns, too beat up or outrageously expensive. A quick exchange of four Benjy's and I was out the door.
The photo doesn't do the condition much justice. What looks like wear on the barrel is actually glare from the sun. The '97 in the photo has always been one of my favorites. The Remington fits right into my fascination with the early 20th century. I'll have to get some better photos when it warms up outside and I can add in a 1911 and an old S&W.

Jason, that is a really nice find! It's so easy to be mesmerized by the genius of John Browning.

Thanks Guys!
If I remember right the story goes that Mr. Browning offered the design to Winchester first but they turned it down because it was too ugly to be a Winchester. How many millions of these were made? Oops!

Jason that brings back some memories! A Remington 11 was one of my restoration projects while I was in school. The gun I did belongs to a family friend. It was tired to say the least.
I had to make tooling to drill & rivet the leather buffer in the back of the receiver. Put new wood on it, nice deep blue and it looked brand new. When I returned it to the owner he cried.
Yes JMB offered it to Winchester and they turned him down. Remington jumped on it!

Sweet shotguns, they do go great with a 1911 and a old S&W or Colt D/A.

Nice old Browning ! Hard to think of one of his designs that was not robust and reliable. Much copied but seldom surpassed.

Congrats Jason!
It's always fun to get the item you've wanted for a while. Better when it was in an unexpected time and/or place. Best when it is at the right price!
