The Bowman loco on meths.

Post by Pitchy »

This is the first run of the Bowman loco since the big fire, as you can see we moved outdoors.

Thanks, those alcohol burners are scary, wonder how many houses burned down when they were sold as a toy for a kid and they ran it off the tracks on the living room carpet and alcohol spilled all over the place.
The Bowman was the flag ship of they're loco line, it would run 45 minutes on a fill and pull a havey load.
There are six wicks under that boiler, I was only running four and one burned out, hell of a train.
Need a outdoor big layout.

That's a good one Lenn. I haven't messed with my toy trains for many years. Gave it all to a nephew. Lots of fun though.

Big enough I had to use the fire extinguisher to put it out.
What happens is if the wicks aren't tight enough alcohol will spill out which then flares up which then then heats up the tank which then shoots vapors out the vent hole and it just keeps growing.
After talking to some of the train guys I now know the best way to put it out is to throw a wet towel over it and smother it out.
Luckily it was on the steal work bench and not on the plywood layout.

Thanks guys. :)
