We tend to drift around here a bit, but at least this one has to do with something that is shot up into the air.
The launch vehicle from the recent SpaceX launch landed on a tiny barge in the middle of the ocean, and you guys think you can shoot Anyway they brought it into the harbor here to load it onto a truck for shipment to a nearby airport for refurbishment. Hard to get decent photos with all of the clutter but here's one that's not too bad.

I think it's a ridiculous mistake landing vertically on a barge. they could put airbags in the thing and land in the water. much easier to hit a spot on 78% of the earth's surface than a postage stamp. they've chosen the riskiest possible approach.

I think plenty of salt gets bounced up from the rockets braking the fall, and besides they used to splash the space capsules into salt water, just hit it with a fire hose and rinse it off.
You're probably right about mars landings. Less gravity too, so less fuel burn. Although if pelosi went the bouncing ball thing would go viral on u2oob.
The next milestone will be when they re-use one of the rockets. I heard on the radio last week that their launch schedule is so heavy that they'll need to be launching a rocket about once every 2 weeks for the rest of the year.

Once the ninnies get over it they will be landing them on land. The idea is to have them take off, do their thing, then land back at the same facility for refurbishment. Then repeat.

Buck Rogers was doing that routinely when I was a kid. I learned to read early so I could read Buck Rogers in the Sunday Comics, then I had technicolor dreams of Capt. Rogers landing his rocket in my back yard.
So what took spacex so long? Bet they never read any of Buck's exploits. KWIM?

If we sent Nancy Piglosi to Mars they wouldn't need retro rockets or airbags, just let her flap her gums on reentry- all that hot air talking in circles would land the craft as gently as a feather!
