... to General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson!
From today's Patriot Post:
“[M]y religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave.” —Stonewall Jackson
Today we mark the birth anniversary of Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson (1824-1863), a great military commander and a man of equally great faith who gave his life for the cause of Liberty and states' rights.
Jackson died of pneumonia after being wounded by a security detail in the dark of night after resounding victory at the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863. Upon learning that Jackson lay dying, Gen. Robert E. Lee1 said, “Give General Jackson my affectionate regards, and say to him: He has lost his left arm but I my right.”

Some here my think I have an obsession with southern Generals from the American Civil War, due to my location (South Carolina), but I was born and raised in the north. My appreciation to these patriots is due to their support of states rights, liberty, and the Constitution. Many did not believe in slavery and detested the institution (which, I would argue, was on its way out due to technological advances). These men were men of faith and honor - qualities sadly lacking in many of today's so-called "leaders". Thus, my admiration.
Happy 193rd birthday...

Re: Happy 193rd birthday...
I hear ya Kid......no doubt....had I lived in that time and been of age, I would have walked below the Mason Dixon Line to sign up.....and slavery would have nothing to do with it.
Stonewall Jackson and Nathan B. Forrest are higher on my list than Grant and McClellan.----6
From what I've read, Stonewall Jackson used to pray that lots of union soldiers would be killed. Little weird, but I guess war is war.

I hold honorable soldiers in esteem.
I also have quite a few Yankee kin in graveyards in southeast Ohio.
The CSA "cause". IMO, was flawed. The Northerners were pig-headed, and unfair in their demands upon the treasure of the south.
I find nothing glorious, or honorable in slaughtering each other's brothers and sisters.
