POLITICS - European View of US Election

Post by Ray Newman »

Europe cannot figure out why Americans are even bothering to hold a presidential election.

On one side, you have a bitch who is a lawyer, married to a lawyer, and a lawyer who is married to a bitch who is a lawyer.

On the other side, you have a true war hero married to a woman with a nice chest who owns a beer distributorship.

Is there a contest here?....

Are you saying that Mrs. McCain has a beer distributorship AND an ice chest? :!: Sounds like a plan to me!

McCain deserves respect for his trials, but he is not a hero.

:?
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

TERRY, YOU'VE GOT TO WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE BUT YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE MONEY. FREEDOM LOVERS LEFT EVERY OTHER COUNTRY FOR OURS ABADONING THEIR WEAK-KNEED RELATIVES TO THEIR FATE. THEY MADE A LIFE HERE, TOOK CHANCES AND WERE SUCCESSFUL WHILE AT "HOME" THEY ALLOWED THEMSELVES TO BE MICRO-MANAGED BY SUCCESSIONS OF DICTATORS.

Umm, and I think he is a hero but being a hero doesn't make you presidential material.

I respect the man for the trials and tribulations he suffered at the hands of the NVC and would like to thank him for that. But just because he flew airplanes and has served his constituents doesn't give him automatic standing to be president. Like Hobie said +1.

My take, and to only slightly modify your words...

I respect the man for the trials and tribulations he suffered at the hands of the NVC and would like to thank him for that - but frankly, a man that has been under the "gentle ministrations" of communist programmers should automatically be disqualified from holding National Office.

Hollywood only made a movie out of a long-standing issue:

Call it Stockholm Syndrome. Call It Programming. Call it whatever.

Can you say with one hundred percent certainty that someone who has been a POW for FIVE YEARS hasn't had his brain messed with a bit more than should be trusted with the Football?

Hell, he's PROVEN that he has no regard for the FIRST amendment, and has said that he is opposed to much of the SECOND... why is he in National Office at all?

We wouldn't let Kissenger run, and we won't let The Governator run for POTUS because they spent their early years in Europe - why are we thinking about letting someone who spent 5 years in a torture/programming center be President?

It is in the eyes of the beholder perhaps. Some folks want everybody to be as stuck in the mud and slime as they are. If one of our fellows pulls himself up and does something extraordinary, he can be considered a hero by some and will be pulled back into the muck by others.

This is a very bad thing and we suffer greatly for it.

McCain did not take the easy way out. He did what few others would do and paid the price for it. I consider him a hero because he would not come home when he could have because there were others who could not. He put their cause ahead of his own personal interests.

The selflessness of an act can make one a hero.

In my book he is a hero! Anybody that can score a beer distributor with a nice chest...that's my hero! All the rest is just politics and we all now that we the ants don't control that!

I have had the honor to talk with Sen McCain and many others who suffered at the hands of the enemy from WWII to present. Anyone who can can survive those trials and tribulations; maintain their dignity, faith in God and country...is a hero in my book. I see many strong opinions and beliefs on this forum. I pray your beliefs are never tested as they were. If you are...the example these heroes set using God, country and the Code of Conduct as a guideline may not be a bad one to emulate.

Yeah, McCain is only a conservative everyother day of the week. That bothers me until I realize that Hillory and Obama are liberal/socialists EVERY day of the week. They love the ideas imbodied in Eurapean Social Democrat parties.

And I think i can trust that any "programing" McCain got while getting the @#$% kicked out of him as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton, has probably worn off sometime during the last 40 years.

He has never called himself a hero that I have ever heard. He doesn't qualify as such based on the deffinition that I go by. But then again, I think that GW has been one of the most heroic presidents since Lincoln. Most people think I'm looney about that but history will decide.

All things considered, I think I will take my chances with the old guy. He beats the person in second place by a Moscow Mile.

Who'se whining? I think that it is precicely for what is essentially the same reason - questionable loyalties - that should preclude him, or anyone who has undergone torture/programming by an enemy power, from being POTUS.

Nice way to introduce yourself BTW - by showing disdain for "second amendment chestbeaters".

In my books, McCain qualifies as a hero, only time will tell if he qualifies as a good president. As for what makes a good presidential candidate - seems in the past, being governor of a state gives experience, not so much being a senator, and even less a congressman. I imagine a person from an international business perspective could do the job. We have had actors that become governors do the job so why not a war hero who loves his county and served in the senate? Time will tell I reckon.

Riiiiight. Well, you just go ahead and continue to promote the Vichy's view that we "2nd amendment chest thumpers" are weird John Bircher Radicals, and I'll keep on chest thumping, along with the entire history of the Constitution.

It makes my "job" easier when you do... unfortunately... :?

I don't think he was disagreeing with your views on the 2nd amendment... just your low opinion of McCain.
Why don't we keep the discussion on THAT point, and not descend into "my flag is bigger than your flag" kind of stuff.

I personally think McCain IS a hero, because of what he endured as a pow.
I disagree with much of what he espouses, but I disagree with MOST of what the other two espouse.

He won't do as much damage to our nation as the other two will.

Yes, he will.

...and he'll be able to get away with it because people who vote for the (R), no matter who wears it, will in typical partisan-zombie fashion, convince themselves that he's not as bad as the other two are.

so, let me get this straight..
You believe that McCain will force a nationalized health care system on us, and finance it with the largest tax increases ever seen in our country's history... and that he will appoint extremely liberal "judges" to the Supreme Court.... and he will voluntarily destroy all our nuclear weapons (along with Russia, of course).... and will give his blessing to any type of abortion, no matter what trimester... and he will immediately pull the troops back out of the war on terror.... and he will give citizenship status to ALL illegal immigrants, no matter what....

wow... you have a pretty dismal view of the future.
I choose to be able to see differences of PRINCIPLE, which are pretty obvious, even though he is more liberal than I like. It's not "toeing the party line"... it's being observant, and somewhat pragmatic.
A "liberal" conservative is still WAY better than a full blown liberal. I'd vote for McCain as readily as I would Joe Lieberman, if he were a candidate.

It sounds as if you are saying "if I don't get EXACTLY the candidate that I want, then I might as well vote for the polar opposite of my beliefs"
That's pretty naive, and petty.

You've worked pretty hard at hearing words that were never spoken. So allow me to replace your spiel with my own.

I believe that John McCain will stay up late at night searching for new ways to defecate on the law and destroy the Constitution.

He will work tirelessly to put "reasonable regulations" on each and every itemized condition of life that Americans consider to be their rights.

I do indeed believe that he will force new and oppressive laws upon us which will raise our taxes, infringe on our civil liberties, drain our pocketbooks, and reduce or eliminate the middle class.

He will do everything that it is within the power of the President to do to eliminate our national borders, grant unlimited unconditional amnesty to illegal aliens, to eliminate the legal authority of our national sovereignty and sell our nation land, property, and People to Communist China for his own enrichment.

I don't think he'll hurry to pull out of Iraq, I think he'll do everything he can to keep our military involved and fighting as a mercenary force somewhere else in the world, even if he has to start a few new wars, so that our armies are occupied doing something, anything, but defending the American People from John McCain and his cronies at home.

I believe that he is the worst possible candiate for the office.

Perhaps that clarifies my "view of the future".

all of the things I mentioned are not suppositions or paranoia on my part. They are things that both Hillary and Obama have stated they WILL do.

Again, you're ok with all that?

What you've stated about McCain are actions that YOU assume he will take. He has not, to my knowledge publicly indicated he intends to do any of them.

on the other hand, you have only a partial list of the nightmare scenarios that the two others have proudly proclaimed as their platform. I'm sure there are more where those came from.
