Taylor Machine gun services

Post by Mainehunter »

I'm curious to know if anybody here used him for any gunsmithing work? I'm thinking of getting my Savage 99 converted from 30-30 to 38-55 and have the round barrel made into an octagonal.

Thanks

I'v used him before & cant say enough good about him. He's a great craftsman & easy to deal with.

You wont have much trouble I dont think turning a standard rifle barrel into an octagon. If theyre like a Marlin rifle barrel, across the flats theyre thinner than a round barrel, measured corner to corner theyre the same as a RB. In other words its doable. John dont do metal finishing tho or marking. He'll likely recomend a fellow by the name of Dale Woody who also comes highly recomended.

Johns got a rifle of mine right now to reline.

I highly recomend him.

I just talked with John today. He is backed up big time. My project has been there 4 weeks and it still hasn't made it to the front of the pack. He is also in the process of moving to a LARGER location.

He is very good, so much so that he said he stopped advertising 2.5 years ago. I saw a reline job he did for Marlinman93 and it was invisible.

Thanks for the info! :) As for the octagonal barrel it was just a thought and I will have him make the decision if it can be done. I picked up the Savage 99 just the barrel and receiver from a yard sale a few months ago thinking it would make a good project.

I haven't found a gunsmith anywhere who can do any better work than John Taylor. I'd never hesitate to recommend him!
