Re: What else do you REALLY need....????
My life was simple at one time, after I sold a bunch of guns I vowed that four was all I needed
22,12 ga. 300 H&H & a 357 revolver
boy did I ever stray from that idea but it was rather simple for the short time it lasted

True - I've thought "22LR, 12 ga, 375 Ruger, and 45 Colt/ACP Redhawk..."ollogger wrote:My life was simple at one time, after I sold a bunch of guns I vowed that four was all I needed

Could live with the .444. Would prefer a .357 over the BEE. Any way, you are correct. Think we all have way too many guns, but, it's part of the addiction

Re: What else do you REALLY need....????
With these two, you could hunt anything in the U.S. (or world, with proper bullets and shot placement) easily if you were a good stalker. For the farther-out stuff I'd add a 375 Ruger, (or the slightly-inferior 375 H&H ) and for birds a shotgun (a Saiga would double as a home defense item).
Handgun-wise, toss in a Redhawk 45 Colt/ACP, and a Ruger Mk-III/45 with a can, and that's six firearms to meet all needs... http://ammoguide.com/cgi-bin/aicompare. ... 1&xxglbl=1

Mind you, I am a die-hard Winchester guy, but no battery of lever action rifles is complete without the best .22 levergun, a pre-safety Marlin 39A:

Yeah, I think I could make it with four. I'd go with Winchester, Marlin, Savage, and Remington.ollogger wrote:My life was simple at one time, after I sold a bunch of guns I vowed that four was all I needed

I like that list a lot!
Going with what I have I'd substitute your '85s with my
1886 33WCF and my Colt Gold Cup for the Tommy gun though I'd love to
go the SBR route for a real Thompson.

22 LR pump rifle. Rossi is OK but Win better.
22 LR pistol. Browning Buckmark
308 Win. BLR
12 gauge. Winchester Model 12 or my Baretta sxs is OK
I could easily get by with this setup.

Yeah, Doc - but in reality IIRC you did a (great) BHA .500 levergun........
For a CF handgun, I really liked ( but couldn't afford) a Freedom Arms Model 83 .454/.45Colt/.45ACP/.45WinMag convertible.

REALLY NEED??? To be happy or to be able to barely get by?
To barely get by:
Rifles:
22 LR
223/5.56
30-06
375 H&H
45 Colt
Handguns:
357
45 ACP
Shotguns:
12 ga. 3"

Re: What else do you REALLY need....????
I'm glad this is just a game.
But, menfolk used to get by with a .22 and a shotgun of some sort. But, I'm not like that. I like having several in the safe even if I don't shoot much anymore. "Just" two wouldn't cover my three go-to EDC mouse guns....

I often hear the phrase "beware the man with one gun" in my head. I like Docs two rifles a lot. I've been down to 3 guns at one point. 300 mag, ar15 and a 1911. I think I could do the same again except a 9mm glock instead of the 1911. I've never had much use for a shotgun but I keep them around.

Don't forget Rock Island makes a 9mm double-stack 1911 (with optional 22 TCM barrel)...sore shoulder wrote:I often hear the phrase "beware the man with one gun" in my head. But out west you are going to want some pointy bullet type at least .243, .270 - better.

I don't "need" anything else or a good portion of what I have !
But I want all I have and I "want" to get a Parker EH or NH 10 gauge with barrels 24 , 26 or 28 inches that are uncut factory original . I also "want" a Parker VH 28 gauge on a 00 frame with factory original uncut barrels .
