I have a question for the knowledgeable.......OK, we see these movies and read stories of Indians using these tomahawks but I always thought Indians had no knowledge of iron. What did they do, make them from existing pieces of iron from other items.....or were they stone and the movies incorrectly showed them as iron?----6

Sixgun, Otzi the Iceman had a copper axe with a two foot handle. Tests on his hair revealed particles of arsenic and copper, possibly he was involved in smelting of ore. He lived 5000 plus years ago in europe,

steel arrived via the spanish in the 1400s to south america and then to north america. the spanish didn't seem to be traders, they were enslavers primarily and kept the indigineous peoples in poverty.
iron and steel arrived via fur traders in the canadian north, accessed through hudson bay, some time in the early 1600s. that exchange transformed those northern peoples from stone age to modern technology. they boiled water in iron kettles rather than woven baskets, and they traded for other steel and iron tools.

Flint and Obsidian fracture at the molecular level. Brain Surgeons like Obsidian flake blades for this reason. Steel can never be that sharp.
