Alcan Brass 10 Gage shells. Any idea what they're worth?

I have two boxes of these. One full ten round box and one with 8 shells and the box is coming apart.

No idea how old they are and what they're worth. Nothing I need, I was going to put them in the classified section but like I said, no idea how to price them.

I wish I could help but........ I have a full box of unfired Remington 10s that take a small primer that I don't know what to do with. I've had them for about 45 years now and my great uncle probably had them even longer than that. I have a 10 gauge Parker and a Winchester 1901 that I would like to shoot with new brass but no one seems to make any.

Keep them and buy yourself an original Winchester 1887 in 10 gauge. They make a swell racket when heavily loaded with black.

The last 10 gauge brass I bought were about $4 each, turned out on a screw machine. They are really easy to reload, no resizing necessary just prime them, mine use large pistol primers. I made a piece to go down inside the hull and place it over a new primer under an arbor press, then press. Next is powder and a nitro card, then a fiber wad and compress under the arbor press, just a little. Next comes shot and an over shot wad. I glue mine with water glass or Elmer's works fine. Call John Walters or the other wad maker, (my brain malfunctions here) and tell them what hulls you have and they will sell you all the right stuff. It's really easy and if you use black you will get better patterns and Oh, the satisfaction of all that fire and smoke.

A few years back Cabelas had IAC brass hulls on sale for about $12 per 25 round box. I bought all I had rathole money for.

I made a de-priming tool that slips inside the 10 gauge rounds that has a de-priming pin on the end of it. Just set the spent hull over a hole and punch out the old primer. I made a piece of aluminum with a slight depression that would center the primer over the hole. That and your greasy ball peen hammer is all it takes. A piece of wooden dowel that fits inside the hull, whatever gauge, is all you need to push the wads in. That same dowel and hammer would seat primers too. It's just less exciting to use the arbor press. Oh yeah, somebody makes a shell holder for 12 gauge that lets you prime on your single stage press. An enterprising soul could make one for a 10.

I believe that Ballistic Products sells NEW brass in all gauges,
I was given a 12 with Parker head stamp, have no idea about worth but it's for my collection.
You might find some listed on the auction sites, could give ball park.

Unfortunately brass starts at 12 and goes down from there. I would gladly pay twice the price of the smaller gauges for 10 ga.. Woah, just found 10 gauge brass starting at $10.26 per shell + shipping, I guess that's not going to happen.

The last I remember the 12 ga. Parker headstamp brass was about $8 each new.

BP has Magtech brass,12 thru 410 starting at a buck each.

I would sped up to $15 just to have 1 in my collection.

Thanks for pointing him in my direction , but I've not gone that far yet . Matter of fact I had about thirty of the old Winchester brass hulls and I sold or traded them . I kept one and later bought another that has the Parker head stamp. Before I go to brass hulls I think I'll try roll crimping and then maybe progress on .

Rocky mountain cartridge makes new brass 10 ga. Shotshells. Cost varies by length. New ones go between 8 and 10 dollars last tine I looked. You can easily sell them to a cowboy action shooter on the wire. I have 3 10 ga. Shotguns and use brass cases for black powder loads for cowboy.

I've handled an 1887 and there's about 0.0 chance of me buying one because I have shells for it. There's a whole lot of other guns I'd rather spend the money on. Don't see any reason to keep something around for that reason. I've bought guns because I've had a cool holster, half a case or case of ammo, etc. but for 18 lousy shells to outlay that kind of cash gets in the way of too many other things I want. So if they are not going to do me any good why not send them off to someone who can use them?

Just me I guess.

I have 30-40 pieces of that Alcan brass in 2½", 16 ga. Mine uses 57* primers which are pretty much unobtanium now.

I cobbled together some loads for a pre-WWII Bergsmuller double I have which has short chambers. Someday I'm going to buy a case of 2 9/16" loads and shoot a little skeet with it.

This post reminded me of something I had buried in the back of the cartridge collection. It was all wrapped up in shrink plastic (Saran Wrap) just the way I left it....30 years ago? Don't know and don't care......anyway, I pulled those babies out and got a good laugh at the printing on the top of the box.

These are military WW2.....I guess.....no date...but they are military...box is pristine new......made by Winchester .........

Years ago there were only two primers to chose from. The Remington 57 Star, (.227"-.228") for Remmy and Peters cases, and the #209, (.240"-.241") for Winchester and Federal cases. And primers were never included in reloading data, it was just assumed you would use the right size primer for the case. It must have been in the 1970's when CCI came out with a #209 that people started talking about how hot they were.. Can't remember when the primer debate started. Wayne

Six, those are probably the right primers for the Alcan cases. When I got mine I used the Remington 57* primers and they fit properly. I still have the remains of that box of primers. After going through two moves they still reside on the primer shelf of my loading bench. I was going to look on the boxes for the primers size but I relocated some of my "stuff" and now cannot find them.

There are sources of both loaded and new Cheddite plastic cases in 2½" length available and for not terrible $$. Maybe when cabin fever sets in I will search out load data for them.

As it is now, I'm watching for a MEC 600 Jr. either in 16 ga. already or one cheap enough that I can justify a conversion kit & a short kit.

I already have a 600 Jr. with 12 & 20 gauge parts, if I get desperate I can get by with just a 16 ga. conversion. But I hate to swap gauges, I have a 650 for my 12 ga. target loads so the 600 stays set up for 20 ga. Another 600 will fit nicely into my plans.

Alan....ok.....funny thing, I load anywhere from 6-12k a year in centerfire ammo....closer to the 6 as I've got older.......and in 44 years of reloading I've never loaded a shotgun round...other than playing around.......I've always found it easier to buy them by the case.

Anyway, as I'll never use these, if you need em let me know and I'll ship ya 3 of them......always have to keep one ...in case I need to load a case.. ----6
