Brought home this near perfect WWII German Luger. Mauser manufactured 41 code all matching numbers, two correct magazines, holster and loading tool. The Magazines are not numbered but have the proper codes for this pistol. There's a little holster wear on the bluing( mostly the camera glare), but it's in super condition inside and out. I've had a lot of WWII German pistols and a few Lugers over the years but this is the cleanest one I've ever had my hands on. Handling the P 38 and Hi Powers, it's easy to see why the Luger was being replaced but there is something classically Imperial about the Luger. The only story I got with it is that the gentleman that sold it found it in his grandfather's stuff and didn't want it. Unfortunate that he didn't want to keep it in the family but it will well taken care of here.
For whatever reason the P38 ( and my leverguns) survived the purge.
If it's not too nasty tomorrow I'm hoping to pop out to the range.

Back when I was young & stupid, my B-I-L owed his sis some money... He gave me his RCBS Jr2 press, & reloading dies for .44Mag, .30-30 & 7Remmag, two of which I needed to reload for... and a very pristine high polish civilian P-38. Apparently he wasn't too bright, because neither him or his sister realized he owed her THAT much money! While I'm still using those die sets... the RCBS press recently went to my sister's husband, and the Walther has been gone for so long I don't remember what I got in trade for it!!! And although I'm sure I got it's full value in trade... I wish I had it back... with it's two mags I can't remember it ever misfeeding or having any sort of hiccup... plus, it was just so beautiful... I've never seen a firearm with such rich, deep bluing that didn't look over done.

There is a fine line between hobby & obsession! AND... I'm over it!!
No I ain't ready, but let's do it anyway!
Those early P 38s or HP at the time are something to see. Beautiful pistols. I had the chance to buy one many years ago ( was probably about 20) but I thought the $800 price was too much. Oh well, live and learn.

Just a quick stop today. Nineteen degrees but no wind and the sun was out so not too bad.
Target was about 15 yards and shooting one handed. Ammunition was CCI Blazer Brass 124 gr.
This one isn't going to be a lot but I had to know if it worked like it's supposed to and it sure did.
One magazine doesn't hold the toggle open on the last shot so it probably needs a good cleaning, otherwise it functioned perfectly.
Always makes me happy when a real collectible shoots good too!

I like Lugers, and that is a nice one that shoots too. I understand your liking the P-38 though. They hit a soft spot in my German soul. (Yeah, my Mama's maiden name was Bogle). The P-38 just fits my hand and I like shooting them. Currently I have a P-1, the aluminum framed version and really like it.

Yea!!!! My moms maiden name was Schwehla...and I KNOW she came from Germany......blonde hair, blue eyes, and a war bride.
Anyway, your Luger works surprisingly well with Blaser ammo. Yes, I will agree on the functioning part of a gun. They have to work and be decently accurate for them to be keepers-----6
OK.
