...And today's generation has all sorts of medical issues ! Eating dirt is the best way to be exposed to all the nasty little bugs that surround us. Ingest then through the digestion while well and the body builds immunities. Ingest them at the doctors office while ill and now you have a double wammy.
Yep take the kids out and help them get dirty... they just might outlive you.

I remember it as being kind of crunchy. My favorite thing was digging little water courses that led to a mud dam and getting out the hose. That sweet hose water was just the thing to wash down a little soil.
Electrician I know always gave his toddlers his keys to play with. One day the lamp in other room goes out. Wife changes the bulb- nada. He goes down & flips the breaker back on. Hour or so later, same thing, this time a complied with a screech & crying kid. His kid was sticking the keys in outlet. Thought that boy a valuable lesson!
I agree with missionary5155. Today even our food has to be "steril". Especially the meat from supermarkets; if it ain't bright pink or red, it's too old to eat.
But my uncle in Duncanville would go to his butcher and buy cuts of meat and store them there, at room temp for a week or three, depending on the cut. His brisket was the most tasty, tender meat I've eaten and it was in the cabinet at the butcher for 3 weeks, no refrigeration, and was black. I don't know anyone that would "risk" that today, and I can't even get my wife to use week old beef. None of the family got sick, and most ate Uncle Charley's BBQ brisket like there was no tomorrow...

I was on a ship to the US... severe lack of mud out there in the middle of the Pacific. Crossed the Equator @ 180ºL on Christmas Day. I'm sure that was one heck of a Shell-Back initiation! Since it was on a British Ship, the USNavy accepted it as my official initiation date... In 1973 I was the "oldest" Shellback on board; having crossed 21 years earlier!!!
