I herd back from Mark last night, I will try to attach His picture. I am not very computer savvy. Here is the text of this years Moose Hunt.
Jim,

It gets harder every year to bag a moose where I live, but Lady Luck favored me
once again. After two blown stalks over two days on this bull, I finally was
able to knock him down when he made a poor decision to leave the dense willows
and alders that protected him to cross over to another drainage. I intercepted
him on the open ridge line. This year I was carrying a vintage Winchester model
1886 chambered in 40-65 (circa 1894 manufacture). I bought this rifle off of a
friend just a few weeks before season but was eager to let it return to the
field. I obtained bullets for it a week before opening day and hastily worked up
some loads. It shot minute of moose and I was set, or so I thought. At the
moment of truth, I pulled the trigger and heard a 265 grain bullet strike flesh.
The bull picked up his pace so I hit him again and then again and again. He
slowed some so I fired again, all at about 125 yards. He finally went down and I
applied a finisher to the back of the head. My initial volleys had all struck at
the distal portion of the rib cage, about 2 feet aft of where I was aiming.
Later analysis showed that the rear sight, that wasn't especially tight in the
dovetail, had been displaced to the right while in transport. I am fortunate
that my target was large and he was out of the heavy cover. He was a good bull
and has proven to be great table fare. I was the shooter this year as my son
went off to college. Although I enjoy pulling the trigger, I was saddened that
he wasn't present this year. It's like I've entered a new phase of life.

I also hunted with a friend out of Valdez, AK (remember the Exxon Valdez oil
spill back in the 80s?). I shot a nice billy mountain goat. But I used a
lightweight Remington model 700 in 30-06 for that hunt. That wet, super steep
terrain is no place for an antique firearm. I'm not sure how much longer my
body can tolerate that sort of physical punishment. It is without a doubt the
most strenuous test that I annually subject myself to. I think it's like a woman
that has just recently given birth. She swears at the time that she'll never do
that again - until next year when the memory of the pain has faded.

How about you? Have you been hunting this season yet?

I'm still figuring out this phone. I'll attach photos in a separate email.

Regards,

Mark
