New Bowman loco.

Post by Pitchy »

Picked up this Bowman loco, 1930`s I recon.
It used a alcohol six wick burner with a big tank under the cab.
Things went really good setting it up which is always a bad sign  fired the sucker up and the tank got hot and spewed alcohol all over the place, big fire and had to put it out with the ire extinguisher.
Won`t be using that again and luckily it wasn`t on the wood layout.
We have now made a new burner that looks like the original but uses Esbit tablets and safe.
These loco`s are known for having power and has flown off the track a couple times which would be disastrous with the meth burner.
Here`s a vid of the new burner and a run.

Man that's so cool.

Looks like it could pull some weight out in the yard, haul the lowboy with a shovel on it, or a pile driver.

fun stuff

Thanks Grizz, yep this loco really shines in a big garden railroad type setting, maybe next summer I`ll get one built but I`m going to move first.

Thanks pard, it`s a challenge getting everything just right to get them running right.
There isn`t any throttle on it so it`s a balance between heat and load. :)

When I was very young, my Mom wanted to ride a steam train that ran (at least) between Cambridge, and Columbus Ohio.....I can hardly remember any of it except how nice the big, Black porter was to me, and the sounds of the steam when it took off. Seems like we stopped in every little town on the way.

 To my dying day I will always regret turning down a ride in the cab of the steam locomotive our neighbor The Train Engineer stopped in front of our houses where the tracks ran down the middle of the street to give me & his daughter a ride... But being six years old I got skeert when the thing gave off a belch of steam and wanted my Momma

Cool stuff Pitchy!

Really nice set-up. There is something about scaled down trains and railroads that has fascinated me all my life.

Pitchy, I agree that locomotive will really shine when you get your garden railroad built.

I have ridden the train between Silverton and Durango. It is a steam locomotive pulling it. Steam engines are fascinating.
