Bless me Compadre's, for I have sinned by omission...

Post by Old Ironsights »

I finally... finally... watched Quigley. I snagged the DVD from a Library "book sale" and finished watching it today.

I "knew", by all accounts, that it was good, but I'm not much of a "Cowboy Movie" guy. I'm much more... artsy... preferring to do studies of Japanese vs American films (YAAY Kurosawa/Leone) and certain reboots.

But Selleck and Rickman (best badguy ever) won in the end.

We have all missed a good movie now and then. Just say 30 hail John Brownings and go to the range and shoot at least 50 rounds at a target within a week and all will be forgiven.

It has been a long time since I have seen the movie. I remember him taking it from a dead man.

"I, Hatchet Jack, being of sound mind and broke body..."
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

I was born a gun owner.
It wasn't a choice.
I didn't become one later in life.
I was born this way.

One of my best buddies while in smith school had a vhs copy of Jerimiah Johnson. The whole dorm would pile into a 12x15 room and watch it almost every night. My buddy knew it line by line and will still recite the dialogue today on cue.

If you haven't seen it all the way through you NEED to.

If you think about it, "Quigley" could be turned very easily into a full-on samurai movie.

That was one blooper in that movie that rankled me, his supposed 30cal Hawken. Totally retarded.

Besides the fact that no Hawkens are known in such a small caliber (considered a squirrel gun in the east), his real Hawken was a 56. NOBODY would take a 30 cal gun west, let alone would Hawken build a plains rifle in such a pipsqueak caliber.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

It has all of the tropes and motifs of a Kurosawa/Mifune flick, that's for sure.

All it needed was for him to kill all the Redcoats too and it would be a remix of Yojimbo/Fist Full of Dollars/Last Man Standing.
