New Henry Products: .410 Levergun & Handi-Type Single Shots

Post by Pete44ru »

.

Check it out - Henry Repeating Arms is evidently planning to release a .410 levergun & break-open single-shot rifles in Jan 2017:

(the new guns are about 20mins into the video)

Made in WI now. I guess they had enough of NY.

I wish they would make 24" barrels on their 22's.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Henry jumped from the frying pan into the fire several years ago, when they moved production from Brooklyn, NY (NYC) across NY harbor to Bayonne, NJ (as denoted on their rifle's barrel address').

The Bayonne factory got flooded out in 2012 by hurricane Sandy, but AFAIK the facility was re-built there sometime in 2013.

I know Henry's had a barrel manufacturing facility in WI ever since the move from NY to NJ, but IDK if all production's brrn moved out of NJ.

I have a couple of H&R Handi's, they are, or were, relatively inexpensive blue collar everyman's utility tools.

how do they compare and contrast to the new henrys?

If I understand correctly, the center fire guns are built in WI, the rim fire are done in Bayonne.
I'm an hour or so west of there, been toying with the idea of sending him my resume...

I heard about the 410 but the single shot rifle is new to me. Guess I'll have to watch his infomercial.

Me thinks I would like to have one of those .410 lever shotguns if the price is right. I had a Winchester 9410 and liked it but sold it because someone offered me way more than it was worth at the time. God Bless.

It's actually one of the areas where I MIGHT like the Henry tube-load over the Win/Marlin Gate Load.

Maybe.

But I have a Rossi, so it might be a bit before Tony gets more of my money - unless I get another 45-70.

Yup, it wouldn't bother me in the .410, may work better for a 3" plastic shell, that's if they will be chambered for the 3" but I doubt it, the 2 1/2" is about as long as the action will take I guess.

Their Wisconsin plant is about an 60 miles away from me. Two years ago when I was looking for a new job. I thought about applying , because they were moving all their center fire rifles production there. But it is just too far for daily driving. I do need to buy a Henry that is stamped Made in WI. It may be a single shot.

Yeah. It's a shame, but economies of scale rule. There is just not enough market for a "stretched" 92/336 frame & action.

410 is barely popular enough for a gun that will handle a max 2.6".

Too bad really, but there you are.

The single shot rifle in the video looks very nice and I can always find room for another 30WCF. Though the cat's meow would be a .32 Winchester Special or .35 Remington!!

Has anyone heard more? I cannot find an on-line catalogue. The single shot rifle in the video had some very nice looking wood with checkering. "Wuz' wondering if that they were options/special order or what? If standard features, have a feeling that this single shot will not be as economical as the ol' and now defunct H&R Handi Rifle and this may be a deal breaker for some shooters. Same with interchangeable rifle barrels.

Found a similar thread over at Gaybeard's ---

http://www.go2gbo.com/forums/hr-centerf ... 1100693553

Especially interesting was a post from SEK-22 Hornet on page two of the link:

"I emailed them and got a reply back the next day - it will be adult stocks only, no youth stocks planned. Price will place it as an upper end product - MSRP is not yet set. January availability planned (from the video). That's about all he said. He said to watch for more information. I ordered the catalog which subscribed me to their newsletter as well. Hopefully that will be the fastest way to hear about these things. They seem to be responsive to market demand, so if enough people ask for youth models and lower grade models, they might listen, once they hit the market and start selling a few. It will be interesting, whatever happens." (bold added: RCN)

I too emailed Henry, asked about a 25-29/ 32-20 model. Mr Imperato did reply but not a yes or no answer... Maybe that will get him thinking.

The single-shot rifles will initially be in 4 common calibers, as of right now. Could change, probably will.
Hammer guns, like the shotguns.
Iron sights.
Rubber recoil pads.

No external safety.
Ejectors.

The single-shot shotguns will be .410, 20, and 12. 12 will handle 3.5-inch shells.
Removable Full choke from the factory.

Both steel and brass framed models.
Steel will have rubber pad, brass may have a brass plate.
Steel will have a pistolgrip wrist, brass will have a straight wrist.
Bead front.
Extractors, not ejectors.
No external safety.

The .410 leverguns will be in two configurations: Longer barrel with bead & removable Full choke, and 20-incher with Cylinder Bore and iron sights.
Rubber pads.
Blue steel only.
No 3-inch chambers.

Henry runs two plants, as noted above, and sources components from about 5 different states.

NONE of these are in the catalog yet, NONE are in production yet.
Final specs are still being worked out on some.

These single-shots are not replacing the H&Rs as low-cost budget guns.
They are higher quality, expect to pay higher prices.

That Blue Steel Only is a bummer. I like to think of a 410 as a wet and dirty field gun. I really think having the 20" done up like the All Weather 45-70 would be a good thing.

Are you serious??? Anthony, within the last year, said they had no intention of producing a 24" Octagon or Golden Boy because demand for their current products was so high.

I would be in line to buy an H001T if it had a 24" barrel as would a HUGE mass of other shooters.

..............or do you mean a 24" single shot? :|

I would not be without a single shot .410, but the H&R cheap 'un is plenty fine, and if it gets speckled, or banged up, I don't care. A true truck gun.

FOR NOW- only blued steel .410 levers.
The All-Weather line is expanding into other calibers for 2017 & IF the .410 levers sell well enough, I'd say it could be a possibility to include those later on.
Market acceptance will be a major determiner there, neither Winchester nor Marlin has been able to sell enough of their .410 levers in recent years to keep 'em in production, so that's all "to be determined". :)

SOME 24-inch rimfire barrels.
Can't say which models yet.

I can talk generally about things Anthony has already let out of the bag, but until or unless he announces more "new", I can't get too heavily into those.

And keep in mind ALL of this is still subject to change. :)
Early days on everything.
They're still working out final details.

Even with that STUPID barrel band I still think I'm going to buy one. Half the price of a 39A.

I bet a guy could easily get a forearm hanger, cap, and screws for a 39a and adapt them to that Henry. Then shape the forearm down to remove the band stop area. Would be a little work, but turn it into a nicer looking rifle.
