Yes, the 3031 load has been the standby forever. Not an old standby but my favorite is Varget and my
Most accurate full power .30-30 , .22-250 , .243 And .308 loads use it.

Re: Treinta-Treinta
<<<<<<<<<<<<< WAYYYYYYYY Back in the good old days, I was told the standard go to load for the 30-30 was: 170gr JSP = 30 grs IMR 3031, 150 gr JSP = 31 grs IMR 3031. Matches up see, 30 and 31 grs of 3031 powder.
This was of course with the original DUPONT powder, I don't know if that still applies with the currently made IMR powder.
AND THEN ....... I found one of Winchesters little load data booklets and it said 34.5 grs of 748 with the 150 gr bullet. That was back in the 70's, 1970s . A long time ago. I've used that load ever since. It's been a perfect load in every 30-30 I've shot it in.

Re: Treinta-Treinta
I agree with the above powders. If the rifle does not shoot well with these loads, there is something wrong with it, or the shooter.

Re: Treinta-Treinta
I started out with 3031 when I first started reloading in 1970 for the Marlin .30-30 my dad bought for me through the mail from Herter's.
I have since come to prefer the velocity and accuracy of 748.

Re: Treinta-Treinta
In the Golden Olden days of my youth - the 1960's IMR 3031 was THE powder for the .30-30 in the leverguns. Back in those days we used 34.0 grains as maximum for the 150-grain bullets but this load has been backed off at least 2.0 grains in modern times. Back then we thought this load gave us 2,400 fops in the 20" barrels.Griff wrote:If'n I ain't mistaken, it's 30 grains of IMR 3031!
For the 170-grain bullets we used 31.0 grains of 3031 as maximum. Everyone used 30.0 grains as standard maximum because it was easier to compress than the 31.0 grain load. We figured this load as giving up about 2,000 fops from the 20" barrels. This load has also been backed off about 2.0 grains.

Re: Treinta-Treinta
Thank you gentlemen. I'll try both 3031 and 748 and see which one works best for me.
