The maze.

Post by Paladin »

I have found a new way to scare myself more than when people hunting that I have done in my life or explosives work. Brown bears tend to eat anything until the salmon start running. When they eat oats, they eat then down to the roots looking like someone pushed a lawn mower through the field. The don’t go in straight lines and sometimes eat large areas and lay down in them. Creating a maze to walk through until you find a bear in the field. I carried my Co-Pilot in .457 for this exercise. The second photo is of one who stood up 235 yards from me, smallest I saw (the oats were a bit over 4 ft tall and was looking for one over 12 ft I saw earlier). I spent a few weeks helping my friend farm his place spending most my time in a truck or on a tractor when not hunting, GREAT time.

So when these bears do stuff in your woods, they're planting new crops like birds plant and sow seeds. Cool

thatsa mazing.

bears scare the scat outa me, particularly when I can see they are sizing me up for the dinner table, or banging the pilings under my house trying to forage in my fishing gear, etc. etc. etc.

I like 'em best when they run off howling in terror.

yeah, it happens on rare occasions.

The farm is east of Delta Junction and I have been hunting there for a few years. Got to see the area in 97 for the first time when we jumped into Ft Greely. Lots of game - lots of predators, moose, bison, and birds. I have seem some really big bears and wolves but this year they have been killing livestock so we are hunting them.

Bears don't scare me at all. When they can jump off the TV screen, I'll get scared!
