So... got your application in to be on "Forged in Fire"... the 'reality' show about knife & sword makers?

I did up a knife for him and personalized for him.
Not me Griff! I'm a real amateur, and couldn't compete with even the worst of professional makers!Griff wrote:So... got your application in to be on "Forged in Fire"... the 'reality' show about knife & sword makers?
Thanks. I just got a stainless Guide Gun and I've been sitting here wondering how black I can get the wood with stain so that they will all match. Lol!Chuck 100 yd wrote: Very nice pair indeed !
Thanks. Any recommendation for a stripper that will really get in there and really go to work on the original finish? I don't want to have to sand on it and risk messing up the checkering.GunnyMack wrote:Camp daddy- if you want your guide gun BLACK, strip it down to bare wood and then apply a wood dye. It will do a better job then stain. Try a wood worker supply house( woodcraft) for the dye.
I really like this idea. I've always liked the feel of the thinner forearm on Winchesters compared to the chubby Marlin forearms. Starting from scratch would be a nice way to go about getting that same feel. May go with a laminate for the added strength and hollow out the butt enough to get the balance right.GunnyMack wrote:I just looked at Boyd's, they have 1895GS stocks, $65, unfinished add another 10 bucks...
They make great stocks, just wish they would do custom spec stuff!
Will do. I used a semi inletted Boyd's JRS in upgraded wood to build this Mauser. Great bang for the buck.GunnyMack wrote:I have used quite a few of their stocks, good stuff. Cost of new vs labor to strip & refinish yours is a no brainer , and you can modify anyway you want!
Put one of their thumb holes on a guy's savage slug gun, bedded it, floated it and he tells me it shoots 1 hole groups now! Guess I should do mine too!
Post picks if you do new wood!
