Ruger 77 production temporarily suspended
Just read this today. Don't know if that "temporarily" will turn into "permanently"....
Re: Ruger 77 production temporarily suspended
I'd be surprised if it turned into "permanently". Ruger has done this in the past to make room for more production in other areas of their product line. The instance that springs to mind is when they temporarily halted 45 Colt Blackhawks. They've done this with other products but I'm blanking on them at the moment.

They also stopped production of the RedHawk for a year or So a few years back. Now they make more
RH's than ever it seems. Sales drive everything. I rarely see a mod 77 / anything at our club or local gun shows. Ruger is pushing the American line and may need more production space for it.

One thing for sure their RPR is selling like hot cakes and can't keep up with the demand. I've been waiting for 6 months for mine but I've been told it should be in by next month, will see.

They aren't suspending all of them. Just the .357, .44, 17 HMR, and .22.

A "stocking dealer"/FFL has received this e-mail the day before yesterday, from Ruger:
Dear Jesse,
We wanted to provide you with a heads-up regarding an upcoming consumer communication about one of our rifle lines.
We have closed down the 77/17®, 77/22®, 77/357™ and 77/44® line and have temporarily stopped production of all models. At this time, we do not have a schedule or plan to turn the line back on, so any existing inventory that you or your distributors have, represents the entirety of the available product. Officially, supply is now limited.
We will be sending THIS EMAIL to our consumer email database tomorrow (9/16) - driving them to search for these products at a local retailer, like you.
We encourage you to reach out to your distributors today for remaining product availability. Also, please let your sales team know that calls may be coming in from consumers as they receive the linked communication from us tomorrow.
Thank You,
Ruger

Re: Ruger 77 production temporarily suspended
The American line must be doing a whole lot better than the 77. No big deal.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Ruger 77 production temporarily suspended
I'm glad it isn't the Hawkeyes line. I'm sure the suspended models aren't big sellers. I do have an early 77/22 and I've never owned another rim fire rifle since. But the new American rim fire lists now about what my rifle did over thirty years ago! Same magazine, still nicely built, and probably just as accurate.
Might be time to get a 77/44 though. I think it and the 357 are about to climb in value

I love the 77/44 stainless I have - it is my "hunt deer in the pouring rain" deer-rifle.44shooter wrote:I'm glad it isn't the Hawkeyes line. I'm sure the suspended models aren't big sellers. My 77/22 'all-weather' would be my rabbit-hunting version, if I hunted rabbits.
The only 'Hawkeye' I have is the 'Alaskan' in 375 Ruger, which I no longer see listed. It has the Hogue 'rubber' stock, and is built like a tank, and easy to shoot despite over 4,000 foot-pounds of energy delivered with a flat trajectory (comparable to 270 Win) out to 300 yards or so. It would be one of my "last to part with" firearms.

Re: Ruger 77 production temporarily suspended
Ruger may need that line to build there Ruger Precision Rifle on. They just cant keep up with demand for that rifle. ???
