Kind of out of the loop on what 92's are going for. LGS has one OBFM in 38-40. Decent bit of blue on the barrel, not so much on the receiver and wood is OK. Action seems tight on lockup and bore is very good.
Just wondering what they are going for nowadays.
Thanks

Re: Win 92 worth?
They are rare in se wyo. but have paid less than 700 for 25-20 or 32-20 in recent times but
for the life of me I cant find a 38-40 for under 1500 with a good bore

I have a used truck. It's in pretty good shape. What's it worth?
Go to Gunbroker.com, got to "advanced" search, search "completed" auctions, and look at 1892's that have actually sold.

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

.
In that condition, and with a wide audience of prospective buyers (usually online gun auctions), the .25-20 & .32-20 Model 1892/92's trade hands for $700-$1000; the larger bores (.38-40 & .44-40) bring about twice as much (2X = $1500-$2K), due to the CAS demand.

Well, I bit the bullet so to speak and did some trading for the thing. In pretty decent shape, but what was the kicker is that the bore looks about like it did when it left the factory!! I don't see a pit one. Groove measures about .4014" and bore about .395". Pic doesn't do the bore justice. Good amount of blue on the barrel/mag tube, but not near as much on the action. Wood in very good shape.
Tried some bulllets I bought, but not real impressed, but not horrible, about 2.5"@50yds. Tried some bullets from an Accurate Molds 403-215 mold, some sized .401" and some unsized, but tumble lubed/pan lubed. Pics show the story. Best group 1.25" ctc. Seems to like the .401" bullet better. Think I will open the die to .402" and see what happens.

Re: Win 92 worth?
If you really want to see what any rifle can do, load at match velocity.......say...from 1000-1080 f.p.s.
My load for match velocity in the 38-40, 44-40, 44 mag., or the 45 Colt is 6 grains of Bullseye and a standard weight bullet.
38-55's get 9 grains of Unique with a 255 cast
45-70's get 11 grains of Unique and rounds of the 30-30 size which also includes the .308 is 6 grains of Unique. All with cast bullets sized correctly.
That's a nice rifle....the full octagon makes it desirable......id say it's worth an easy 15 c-notes.----6

Re: Win 92 worth?
Hello Thunder50,
Congrats on the new rifle. I own LOTS of Model 1892 rifles and they are a pleasure to shoot and hunt with. I am working on a research survey of the Model 1892's and would like to add your gun into my database. Would you be so kind to send me a series of photos of the areas stamped writing on the rifle and the serial number please? You can read about the effort at this link: http://winchestercollector.org/forum/wi ... le-survey/
I am more than glad to answer any question you might have regarding the rifle or the research.
Thanks so much
Michael
