Just beautiful. Quite impressive all in one spot.

I'll be walking the floor later this afternoon. Just "looking" this year.
I'll try and take some photos and post them later.
For those not able to attend this show. The entire outer perimeter is made up of member displays. There are some amazing military firearm, S&W, Colt, Savage, etc displays.
The show floor is a bit over 200 dealer tables of vintage firearms and related stuff. You won't see any black rifles, plastic pistols, jerky, beanie babies, etc. It's a "gun" show, not a flea market.

Re: Ballard Scheutzen display at OAC 2016
Thanks guys! As jdad mentioned, it truly is one of the finest collector shows in the USA! My display pales when compared to some of what I saw there today! I'm honored and amazed at what others have put together, and gone through to share with the public that attend this show! Kinda restores my faith in what a quality gun show can be with effort by the folks who regulate and put this show on!
Picked up a couple more single shots today. I hope to entice my son in law into taking the original 1867 Remington Rolling Block military rifle I got for a giveaway price! He's been interested in starting on an antique gun collection, so maybe this is the starter!
Then another #5 Ballard Pacific walked up to my table. Very nice gun in .45-70, with a perfect bore, and perfect wood. It's only drawback is it needs the receiver re-cased, and it will look close to new condition. Someone stripped the finish, and it detracts from it's appeal. Another project to fix a little, and then turn it over to some new owner to enjoy. I'd keep it, but I have it's twin already!

Re: Ballard Scheutzen display at OAC 2016
I really only went to look, but ended up with a pretty mint 3rd model Winchester 1890, in 22 short. It dates to early 1908. I have about 2 bricks of 22 shorts and nothing to shoot them with.
I negotiated politely and ended up paying about half of what it was worth. I think the dealer and his wife really enjoyed speaking with me.
There were lots of very expensive "shooters" and some questionable "high condition" rifles, but the displays were really the highlight of the show.

Nice investment quality rifles you have there.
Did you ever see a factory made cheek piece for a left handed shooter. I noticed all of your rifles are for right handed shooters....which makes sense.----6

Re: Ballard Scheutzen display at OAC 2016
Absolutely! In fact at the Denver show I almost bought a Remington Hepburn that was a Match B for a lefthanded shooter! It was in my hands when the seller pulled out a 2nd Match B with 34" Creedmoor barrel with a righhand cheekpiece! I quickly put it back, and got the RH one! But I bet the lefty was a very rarely ordered option!Sixgun wrote:Nice investment quality rifles you have there.![]()

On an interesting note! The cased Schoyen I had on the display, and recently restored was spotted by someone who recognized it! The person knew the previous owner who had passed away in 2015, and was a retired dentist. I asked for details on the owner and the gun, and he was very generous with info on his friend! He also said "Doc was very proud of the Schoyen, and would be pleased to see what you've done to it!" Doc was 88 when he passed, and took the Schoyen Ballard as payment for dental work he'd done years ago.
Made me very happy to get the owner's info, and know his friend thought Doc would approve of the work!

Re: Ballard Scheutzen display at OAC 2016
There were a lot of overpriced firearms (as usual), but you're right that there were still a bunch at giveaway pricing just sitting there. I still can't believe I got the 1890 for the price I did or that it was still there when I came by Saturday afternoon.

Re: Ballard Scheutzen display at OAC 2016
I purchased another Ballard Pacific in pretty nice shape, with a perfect bore and wood for under $2k. Rarely see a Pacific under $2500 in such nice shape! I'm passing it on to a friend who couldn't make it to the show.
I also found a Ballard globe front sight with rare .452" dovetail for my #7 Long Range! Marlin only used this wide dovetail the first year, so I was surprised to find one, and at a great price! Picked up a super rare Ballard bullet mold in .45-70 Govt. marked MFA Co. too! Only one I've ever seen outside of pictures! Got a #6 Ideal duplex powder measure also, and hoped it was slightly better than the one I had. Turned out to be equal, so I sold it the next day for a nice profit.

I also noticed a couple of big $$$$$$$$ dealers that weren't there this year.....Don Grove and Larry Shennum
I only paid $350 for that mint 1890.

Don was there, but didn't have a table this year. Not getting around well. Larry also has health issues.jdad wrote:I also noticed a couple of big $$$$$$$$ dealers that weren't there this year.....Don Grove and Larry Shennum
