Stroke of luck

Post by johnly »

I purchased a Marlin 336A with 24" barrel in 35 Remington on GunBroker for a cast bullet rifle. Got it for $298, and the condition is pretty good considering it was manufactured in 1951. Rather than having it shipped, I altered a planned trip in the general direction, so that could stop by and pick it up and avoid the shipping cost and related issues. Looking over the rack of guns, I spotted a pair of Marlin 1894s, one in 44-40 with the ugly curved plastic butt plate and another was a 1894CS in 357 that was like new except for a few minor stock finish flaws. It was tagged for $360, and I didn't bother to dicker.

There was a 1955 vintage M88 308 with a cloverleaf tang on the rack for just under $700 and almost bought that rifle as well. Honest wear, but no modifications. Maybe during the next trip to the area it will come home with me.

What was the price on the .44-40? Was it one of the old ones?

Replacement steel crescent buttplates are cheap enough. 8)

Here's a link to a picture of the 336A in 35 Remington.

She was no safe queen, but wasn't ridden hard and put away wet either.
