Field stripping the Remington-Lee Model 1899 Sporting Rifle

Just traded into one today in .30-30, and am unsure how the bolt is removed. Anyone have one of these old rifles?

I've always thought that the 1899 version of the Lee rifle would have been a better choice for the US military than the 1892 Krag or the 1895 Lee Straight Pull Navy rifles. (Before any Krag-lover jumps on me, I'm a great admirer of the Krag, and even more of its cartridge, the .30-40 ("Rimmed .308". It was a more successful military rifle than many give it credit for.).

But the magazine of the last American model of the Lee and its demonstrated ability to stand up to Mauser-level pressures (7x57 at least) put it ahead of both of the other rifles in my book. The only 1899 I've ever fired was a .30-40. And I much prefer the 1899's one-piece stock to the two-piece one on the Lee-Enfield.

Rifle proved much easier to field strip than a Krag. I am still working on cleaning the bore to see what I have. First two rounds of foaming cleaner yielded globs of blue, then the third one a puddle of black. There's still a lot in there, but it might just clean up yet. If not, can have it rebored. These are pretty neat rifles. This one has the 26-inch barrel.
