Strange. Very strange.

Murphy's Law:

A Powell, Wyo., man with a gunshot wound to his calf was flown by helicopter out of the Marston Meadows area of the South Fork on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a news release from Park County, Wyo., Public Affairs Officer Lance Mathess, Philip Herweyer, 33, and Karinthia Harrison, 29, both of Powell, were up the South Fork of the Shoshone River in the area of Marston Creek and Bliss Creek Meadows on horseback Tuesday scouting for elk in preparation for the upcoming hunting season.

Harrison was riding in front of Herweyer when the lead rope from his pack horse somehow got wrapped around his .45 caliber long Colt pistol causing it to discharge. The round struck Herweyer in the back of his right calf and exited around his shin.

Park County Search and Rescue was activated in response to receiving a “SPOT” satellite device 911 activation.

SPOT is amessaging device that when activated, determines the sender’s GPS location and relays the information to a central dispatch center.

The call from the Spot Center came into the Park County Sheriff’s Communications Center at 2:14 p.m. A Park County Search and Rescue ground team went to the Camp Creek Trail Head at the end of the South Fork Highway, the news release said.

Search and Rescue also sent up its fixed wing aircraft and requested a medical helicopter from Air Idaho Rescue out of Idaho Falls as local medical helicopter resources were unavailable at the time.

At 5:30 p.m., the Air Idaho helicopter located Herwyer and took him to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg.

I feel I've been tricked. I was certain, based on the title, that this thread would be about BlaineG.

Haven't heard anything about it, but sounds like it was all handled by our good Sheriff's crew.
Don't know why they didn't call for a chopper out of Cody, but that was someone else's call.
Marston Creek and Bliss Creek meadow are a long days ride from the end of civilization.
Been there / Done that..

Ive seen lead ropes everwhere but where you want them if the guy was carrying a colt or clone with no transfer bar it can happen, bet that pony went to pitching when the cap went off. danny

I can see the rope gettin' tangled in the hammer and cocking it... but how'd the trigger get pulled? What don't understand is how Harrison shot Herweyer in the BACK of the lower leg from in front of him. Sumpin' ain't following physics...
