I saw that. You can see the full line up for this year at Lipsey's. As much as I like #1's a .44 Mag seems more suited to a Handi rifle, Which I already have.

Now a .357 or a .357 Max might be interesting.

They did the 357 a couple years back had an Alexander Henry forend and a 22" barrel I think . Think it was a special run for California State Troopers or some such .

Last new one I bought was a #1B in 264 Win Mag the last year they had full production . So that was maybe 5 or 6 years ago maybe longer . Anyway bought the thing at dealer cost worked up a load , killed a couple deer cleaned it up put it away . Last year a friend in Maine that collects #1's kept after me until I sold it to him . I almost doubled my money .

I'd like to see them in 375 Win or 357 Max....

In 'pistol' chamberings I'd like 500 S&W more than 44 Mag. Or 460 S&W.

I have had a couple #1s in 375. H&H that is. I have seen a few #3 in 375 win but always when I had a case of the brokes.

I have one in 7mm Rem Mag and keep thinking I'll rebarrel it someday. Seems like it is a natural action for:
  • > a high-pressure cartridge - because it is strong, and
    > a one-shot stopper - because it is a single-shot, and
    > a long and/or rimmed cartridge - since it is such a short action.
I suppose one could say a "pinpoint-accuracy" cartridge, but I've not got the impression most No.1's are all that accurate by today's standards (I know there are definitely exceptions).

If I lived in Africa maybe I'd want one in 416 Rigby or 460 Weatherby, but here in the U.S. 375 Ruger (or H&H) or 500 S&W seem adequate for anything.

Beautiful guns they are though.

It would be cool if Ruger would sell them with just rifled barrels you could get chambered locally, but the lawyers would probably nix that... :|

Ruger did make a few 38-55's. Just missed one at a gun show, fellow in front of me bought it and it was the only one on the table and for that fact, at that show:(. Ruger also made the 357mag which was an easy rechamber to 357max.

Now, you could take the 44mag and rechamber easily to 445 super mag!!!

Ji----I will bet SSK could make you one in 50-110, all you need is money!!! Fellow over on Castboolits is making one up in 50-90.

Of the two dozen or so #1's I've had over the years I have THREE left !
A 1B thats a rebarrel in 22-250AI with a Lilja stainless barrel . A plain Jane 1B in 243 WIN I gave my pop for Xmas ten years ago and finally a 1H in 375 H&H MAG I've actually owned twice .

Don't see me buying anymore of them however for the right price I just might be talked into a 1V in 6.5x284 or 6.5 Creedmoor .

I have heard that you can get near 444 ballistics with the 445s/m and you get to use your carbide loading dies. Course, a 444 in a #1, you could load warmer than a Marlin. Just like that I could also use 44mag rounds with the 445s/m.

I have owneda bunch of #1's . Only have three left .22-250,.32-40 (custom breech seater) and my .270. When I first started collecting them they sold for $325 new. The .44 mag. Would be a fun gun.
Great for deer and hog sized game.

Yeah - it would be interesting to see what a 444 Marlin could do if you loaded it to "Ruger Only" pressures, since we do see that a 45-70 goes up in performance when you go from "Modern Marlin" pressures to "Ruger Only" pressures...

Of course one could always wildcat it to an over-bored 11x60mmR Murata...

......it might be nice if it were in faster than 1:38 twist, though.... :(
