The main dude in an action flick/book/story is the "Hero" - Right?

The main gal in an action flick/book/story is the "Heroine" - Are you with me here?

So... what usually is the cause of the crisis around which every good story is based?

The Hero gets all brain fuzzy and does stupid stuff.

He HAS to do all sorts of really dangerous/difficult/impossible things to get what he wants or he can't go on living.

And what does he desire/want to possess/fall into the arms of?
