Thought I'd start a new thread hoping more people would be inclined to look in. It's meant to add to Bill in Oregon's post about the Marlin he had rechambered to 25-35 Tomcat.
After having read Bill's post, I recalled having an article by someone in the American Rifleman in the late 70s/early 80s. Fortunately, I saved a pile of them and after a few hours found it. It is indeed by Francis Sell and can be found in the May 1978 issue of AR on pages 96-98.
Was Francis Sell a noted author? I can't recollect ever having heard his name before.

Lordy, OS, what would we call that? A 7-30-25? Or maybe a 7-25 Waters? Anyway, it would have to be pretty similar to a 25/35 AI I would think -- a somewhat shorter neck than the Tomcat, but similar idea.Old Savage wrote:I would be interested in a 25-35 based on the 7-30 Waters, no interest otherwise.

"Was Francis Sell a noted author?" I remeber His articles back in the day but sure wish now I would have paid more attention. The Tomcat seems to be an awesome, flat shooting, low recoil round. in a 7lb Marlin it would be around 8ft lb of recoil.

Kaschi, Francis Sell wrote several books on hunting as well as articles in a number of magazines. He "made his bones" as a young hunter supplying venison to logging camps on the Oregon Coast, so he had a lot of first-hand experience in dense, brushy forest terrain. Would love to see that article from AR, if you could scan it.
Just to be clear, I had a Marlin Model 336 in .30-30 rebarreled and chambered to .25-35 Tomcat. It is now at the local gunsmith's shop having an aperture sight installed.

Thanks for the info about Francis Sell. I don't know how to scan an article, but the boss of the house probably does. She's at a conference til the weekend. If that's not an option, I'll PM you guys and you can send me your mailing address (if you're comfortable with doing so). I can then send you a copy my mail.
