As some of you may, or not, remember, My daughter recently moved to Fort Worth for a new job, so I guess she is an official Texas resident now. My wife drove down with her to help with the move, and couldn't believe how nice all the areas she's seen so far was.Especially after driving through Arkansaw, , She loves the place!

So, I'm destined to visit, eventually.

I gather that there is essentially no public land, What do you do for hunting?, private leases, pay as you go? Buy your own land?
Just curious how you guys do it. Thanks.

There is SOME public land. Hunts on it are administered by Fish & Game, draw hunts. Most folks do hunt leases. I've done both... and gone out of state.

What Griff said + there are MANY exotic ranches where you can collect animals not native to Texas or the US. Some of those ranches have cull/meat hunts where you can fill the freezer at a reasonable price.

+1 to what has been posted above. You just have to look around a lot, and be willing to adapt.

I probably will never move there, and I can shoot all the deer I want here, but you never know.
Frankly, I'd just as soon shoot pigs then anything else, I gather you have a few there.

On a side note, the family discovered Kolaches, I'm not sure they're coming home.

Kolaches are amazing. The two best places to get them are in the town of West, which is just a little North of Waco, and in Ennis.

I have hunted some of the low fence ranches around Lano in the Hill Country, for not that much money, which is pretty much on par with the size of the deer, But if you want to hunt where there is big deer in Texas its going to cost you some big bucks, unless you know someone. I love hunting the hill country of Texas, but I hate driving in Dallas. Of course I hate driving in Little Rock too, or any large city for that matter.

But I am glad I live in northern rural Arkansas where the deer hunting is cheaper and some of us even have shoes now.

I liked Fort Worth, too -- and the Baylor campus in Waco. And yes, those darned Kolaches are addicting.
