Something Fishy Here

Post by Pete44ru »

.

When I was taking my wife to the store today, she asked me to stop at a large yard/tag sale in my neighborhood - where I spotted several small boxes that I thought would be well-suited to store/display a knife or a small handgun like my NAA Mini.

My .22mag NAA Black Widow, sans the huge issue rubber bumpers, fit right in.

(the "white" stuff on the box is bar soap I applied as a lube for the wooden lid)

The several boxes ( I bought the best 4, out of 8-10 available) for sale were all different brands Salt Cod wooden boxes (6"Lx4"Wx2"D) with a sliding lid - a smaller version of the famous/collectible/rare Salt Cod boxes that Bill Ruger shipped out his (then) new .22 Auto pistol in ( ca.1949 ?).

Now, I gotta get myself down to a hobby/fabric shop (A.C.Moore, Michael's, etc) and pick up some stiff foam blocks to fit to the box's interior & cut out for the NAA.

Pete,

I need boxes like that for my sewing machine accessories. Never ever, not once have I seen anything like them for sale here in the mid west. I'm envious, I'd of bought them all and fixed up the not as good ones.

Good catch you got there.

Wonder if the wood has absorbed any of the salt from the original contents? Might pay to keep a close eye on anything metallic stored inside for a while.

That being said, neat find!
