I don't care for any of the pop-top, over-the-top tent versions. Makes urban stealth homesteading kind of hard.
My current favorite German Shepherd is strutting his stuff.
See anything you like?

see anything you like? there's a moog that could be stealthier. they always draw attention, but no one would know if it was occupied.

Re: who asked about off-road campers?
Those pics remind me of this camper I saw in Dawson City YT in 1995...

I actually like this one better than any at the gizmag show.

I thought there was one similar in the gallery. Maybe the same one with new rigging. I like the fenced rack on top. And the ground clearance. However, it is not even remotely stealthy in town. Is the accomodation open to the cockpit?
What engine might be in it? fuel, displacement, etc.?

Dunno. The owners were German and I didn't have time to track them down before leaving DC.Grizz wrote:I thought there was one similar in the gallery. Maybe the same one with new rigging. But, we CAN go one better... and it's only about the size of a bus:

The Unimog ultimate survival vehicle! Costs more than half a million dollars but it's worth it. Carries a huge amount of gasoline, water, has bedrooms and showers, an armory and an ATV and motorcycle. All of the main systems are redundant. Has closed circuit TV, spotlights that rise up out of the roof for 360 degree lighting at night, all wheel drive, high clearance, air filtration, fire suppresion, ballistic protection and bullet proof glass. It's the ultimate survival vehicle for the zombie apocalypse or traversing the country looking for survivors.

OK you got the gold standard there. Spectacular.
It's not the initial cost, it's the maintenance and upkeep that'll do you in.
Plus it's totally vulnerable to a home made panzerfaust.
But FUN to drive if looks tell the story.

It's really just a modern upgrade without swim capability...

Re: who asked about off-road campers?
That looks like a conversion of an old USAF crash truck called the P-2. I don't know where the engine is mounted on this thing, but the P-2 had two engines at the rear. The twin front axels for steering was pretty interesting. It had good ground clearance and a decent top end. The cab on the one pictured is very much (externally) like the P-2 in appearance.Old Ironsights wrote:Dunno.
