Yes, anything that walked away after 4 rounds of 45-70 warrants calling out the QRF. That paw

That is a big bear. I don't know how it compares in size to the typical Grizzly, but we don't have bears around the Dallas area. To me, that is a real trophy. It took 4 shots from a .45-70 and still moved away, that is some amazing toughness.

this fellow came in; he used his marlin 45/70 and put 4 rounds of what I think were factory 405 loads into him
he stayed in the tree, called his son on the cell, and after a few hours they went looking and they found him piled up and stiff nearby
they hauled the meat and hide out with a four wheeler; estimated 'curb weight' about 1000 pounds.
Nice bear. I wouldn't think anywhere close to a thousand pounds though? Is that an interior grizzly or a black bear? Hard to tell from the pics. What kind of measurement on that hide?

While I have great faith in 405 Greenbox, I'd have prefered one of Garrett's finest, or a BTB .45 cal PileDriver 525 grain with a max load of H322, or, equivalent....

me too. I have some handloads with 400 gr at approx. 2000 fps....that would have been my choice.

I'd stay in a tree for 30 hours with a monster like that lurking below even WITH 4 rounds in him. Sometimes 4 rounds just pisses off the bear, even more if shot placement not right.
