These aren't mine any more, but they used to be...
Both .44 Mags (Marlin 1894, Ruger Super Blackhawk)
THIS is the reason (Family Rule - get a deer with it and it's yours...)
However, I replaced them with THESE...
Still .44 Mags (Marline 1894ss, Ruger Redhawk)

So does the kid; I think he'd sleep with them if I'd let him...

Was the Ruger Super Black Hawk an old model, or new model? Can't tell from the picture - does look sweet either way!

Both nice combos, the boy must have been really pleased with both the deer and the reward.
With family rules like that I wouldn't be willing to put any of my guns in my kids hands.
If they want to hunt deer they can buy their own gun.
Academic really since I dont have access to deer.

New Model = not as many 'clicks' when you pull the hammer back, but it still makes the one loud 'BOOM!!!' when you let it go forward...

That is a very nice buck and a great "Family Rule"!!!!
Here is my combo, a Winchester "Packer" carbine with a Williams peep sight in .44 magnum and a 5-1/2" stainless Ruger SBH:

I like your "family rule"!
That's the ways things "used to be".
Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason!

My dad had the same rule, I ended up with a Ruger 44 Mag Carbine and a heavy 10 point with 17" spread as my first deer when I was 13.

Great one, that also wins the prize for the biggest scope on the smallest lever gun.

Actually, for awhile my daughter was using the same scope on her .357 Marlin! It must be genetic - we have a box of scopes we are always swapping on and off different guns, searching for the right 'combo' (wow - another photo posting opportunity!), but for hunting deer, where we might be in low light and trying to shoot between branches accurately, we all love those 'light gathering' big bell scopes.
The deer sometimes laugh at how funny those scoped leverguns look, just before we shoot them...
Still, my favorite for just plain carrying or target shooting or coyotin' is to have a levergun just topped with an aperture sight of some sort.
