New eyes for an old shooter

Post by daisygordoninc »

My eyes have been getting poorer year after year, and my eye doctor told me two years ago
no more new lenses would help, I needed cataract surgery on both eyes. I put it off for a year but then
realized hunting moose and bear would be difficult with some of my old Winchesters beyond about 50
yards. So I scheduled the surgery last July in time to recover before the fall moose hunt up in BC.
The results were more amazing than I could have hoped for, I came out with 20-20 and everything is
bright and clear. Didn't know that was even possible for someone who had worn glasses since 30. So
on my 70th birthday last July I could see to shoot all of my open sights again, can see clear out to
250 yards. I suspect there are others in our group who are probably facing the same situation. My
result is spectacular. I'm not saying that would be the result for everyone but I have a couple of
buddies that had the same result. Seeing again is an amazing thing and sure ups my chances of
getting a good shot off with my old lever action Winchesters and Marlins. This is the first time I have
needed sun glasses since I was in my 30's, everything is bright again.

I had both eye's lenses replaced about 4 years ago, one eye at a time, of course - and can vouch that the results were stunning/wonderful.

The ops literally opened my eyes. ;)

It's nice to still be able to use receiver peep sights, well into my 70's.

My wife had both eyes done about 2 years ago, great results, perfect distance vision and only needs cheap readers when she is doing her quilting or reading the small print.

I shoot silhouette with a group of about 40 people on a weekly basis, the average age of which is over 70. Probably at least half of them have had the procedure on at least one eye.

I'm not sure my wife would like me being able to see well again...

Went from tri-focals to 20-15 vision in 2007, DOD approved the surgery in 2003 for pilots and SOCOM personnel and I missed my appointment at the Air Force academy due to being in Africa. If done before that, and they found out, you could be charged for destruction of government property. I got mine done in 2007 just before a 12+ month trip to Afghanistan. Will have to get another surgery some time in the future as a cloudy spot is starting up again but well worth the time and pain.

Pain ? ? That rots - I had zero pain, with either lens transplant. (each eye was done about 2 weeks apart from each other)

I had both of my eyes done over the last two months.

I paid, don't believe in medical funds and governments.

Best money I ever spent.

As always, I should have done it ten years ago.

I can actually see again and the glare from night driving is no longer hell.

Cheers Mark
