Looking for a song ... FOUND IT :) Thanks guys.
For several decades I've listened for specific song. On the very rare occasion the radio stations played it they never mentioned the title or the artist that I heard.
All I know is that was out in the late 60s or 70s on the rock then the oldies rock stations.
The beginning of the song is vocal about the same length as a normal song, then a gap, then an instrumental part. The gap between the two parts is so pronounced it sounds like two different songs, but it's not.
Since getting on high speed internet I've been burning up You-Tube trying to find this song. So far, no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas what the title of this piece could be?
Please help before I go deef listening to music videos ....
Joe

That's quite a poser. If you can remember a line or two, and Google it, you might get some results.

Can you maybe whistle a little bit of it for us?
Re: Looking for a song ....
Darn, I know the song. It's right there but I can't seem to grab it. Time for a goggle search.

Re: Looking for a song ....
I've heard it so few times I can't remember any of it. Last time I heard it was back in 01 or 02.
Dan,
Not MacArthur Park. The one I'm trying to find has no vocals past the half way point.
Rusty,
That's not it either. No instrumental at the end.

(sigh)
Too limited info, you have to be more forthcoming. I could probably sit here and name a couple...
vocalist, male/female? Tempo? Style, rock/pop/soft/? Instruments used? Length?
Surely must recall some lyrics? (and yes, I'm calling you Shirley)(grin)
I've played a metric tonne of records on the radio since the early '70's so I've probably come across it. (of course, some of those days are a little fuzzy!)
Throw us a bone here. I'm sure I can nail it, but need more info.

I was also thinking Moody Blues. At first I thought Nights in White Satin but I drug out the CD and that isn't it.Griff wrote:Pink Floyd's "Darkside of the Moon"? Or something by the Moody Blues?

Re: Looking for a song ....
I don't know the artist wheather male or female or both. I haven't heard the song since '01 or '02.
Toss you a bone, if I knew the info I'd spill it, I just remember the two part song and really nothing else.
The radio stations rarely played anything over 3.5 minutes and this was at least twice that long.
That's really all I can remember.
As you guys have been naming songs I've played them, so far no go.
joe
OK, here's something that just came to me. The vocals towards the half way point are more spoken than sung. At least I think so.

Gee Joe...
Taking a shot from WAY out in left field on this one.........................
If it went from vocals -- to instrumentals -- was longer than 3.5 minutes, and if it also included some "gibberish" and "whistleing" in it -- then how about:
"HOCUS POCUS" BY FOCUS?!?!?!
The song name is never sung in that one, so that could be another sort of clue too...........
Well, is it????????????????????

This song bugged me for quite some time. But I couldn't remember any of the lyrics. Only that the instrumental was not the same as the vocal part. Now that I have it I feel really relieved. Don't know why, but hunting for this song was really getting to me.

I always liked the story behind that song ... kind of odd, but perhaps normal in the music world of that time.
