It's the little differences that make all the difference

Post by Old Ironsights »

After carrying MAC3 for the last couple of months, I tried to put on Ziggy for the day.

Ain't no way. Bleah. Just not carryable. But my SP101 carries just fine... as well as MAC3.

So, out comes the camera.

Remember this pic?

I thought, weight is the same, not much difference in size. And to look at my 3 carry guns, there doesn't really seem to be.

Same holster design for all 3. Same 4 o'clock carry. But the 1911 and the SP101 are comfortable, and the Zig isn't.

The only real difference is in fractional width and length of grip... and that makes all the difference in the world:

Thin is in. Ziggy stays as the truck BUG.

Sometimes it is very subtle differences that make or break a gun for CCW...

Heck, same same for OC.

Given the same holster in all cases (even a Blackhawk Duty Holster) Ziggy loses.

I love the way SiGs work/shoot, but I can't find a single one (that's not a 1911) that fits my carry style.

OI....I hear ya......I do believe most of us gun guys over analyze what we "should" like or whatever feels better. Probably due to the pounding of advertising, what we first learned to shoot/carry and other people's Internet opinions.

Just close your eyes and grab each gun and whatever feels the best, go for it. For me it's a j frame hammerless Smith for carry and a single action Colt for everything else.

What is nice is that only in America can we have the choice. In other countries, the guys are trying to figure out what rock feels best in their pocket....is it granite, quartz, or the thigh bone from their Sunni neighbor? :D ----6

MAC3 is the end result of selling off too many identical guns built by me for me but sold to people with more money. It's always been the best design for my frame... (Though an alloy frame would be nice).

I thought the Zastava 999 would be a good compromise (until I found MAC) but no joy.

Ah well. Everyone needs a spare Euro9...
