Time for a new two wheeler!
I've been trying to decide what I want for some time now.
there's a new Indian/ Victory dealership that opened nearby and had time to stop in yesterday.
Turns out that an old friend from high school is a sales girl there and we spent some time checking out all the bikes and
chatting. I kept going back to the Scout, it just seemed to fit me the best. I've always had dirt bikes and dual sports so this
will be my first cruiser. Still need to work on getting my strength, endurance and balance back to where it belongs after this winter's extended hospital stay but every day it gets better!
This is the one they had on the floor but I'm thinking black with the tan seats.

Great bike and affordable. The standard scout has a 100 H.P. The scout sixty which MSRP is $9000 has 70 H.P. I was very temped by one myself when the local Honda/ Yamaha shop picked up Indian. But I just picked up a used bike last fall after not having one for a few years. I'll have to see how much I really drive my bike before I dive into a brand new one. I would compare the Scout to a 1200 sportster , size wise, but much more H.P.

Check out the Victory Octane. Little bigger motor, more performance before you decide.

Here's another vote for the silver/tan. Nice!

Re: Time for a new two wheeler!
That bike really looks good. I've been reading in AIM that the Victory is quite a good machine.
I've owned a ridden a bunch of different brands over the years but the last Indian I had was a '37 Sport Scout that had been a flat tracker originally. The one with roller cams and magneto. Would have been better on the street with a front brake instead of the spool wheel it had.
My current ride which has been with me several years.

That Indian is just drop-dead gorgeous.

That Silver Indian is just drop-dead beautiful.
I think my Big Bike days are over. "If I can't pick it up, I can't ride it." I still have a real nice Cow-A-Sucky 900 Vulcan. Perfectly fine scoot, but I sure miss cruise control.

If that Indian is called a scout, maybe it oughta be OD?
Re: Time for a new two wheeler!
HD has, or used to have OD Green as an option. It was kind of sucky paint, tho, you couldn't buff out scratches, wax or breath hard on it.1894cfan wrote:If that Indian is called a scout, maybe it oughta be OD?

Re: Time for a new two wheeler!
That looks good to me. A really cool ride. I guess I'd have to see a black one to compare it to but I do like the silver one. Maybe it's because I'm used to it. 2003 Anniversary Edition 1200 XL with a bunch of goodies so that it dynos at 95 hp. Plenty for a 71 yr old. To be truthful, I'd rather have a stock one with QUIET pipes. Can't hear nuthin' the way it is.

Re: Time for a new two wheeler!
Blaine, the solution to picking the bike up is to get a chick who is capable of doing it for you. Or at least giving enough assistance that the two of you can get the job done.

If she's big enough to pick up the bike, she might make him ride on the backM. M. Wright wrote:Blaine, the solution to picking the bike up is to get a chick who is capable of doing it for you. Or at least giving enough assistance that the two of you can get the job done.

My brother had one of them back in the late 50's.....a 49 Indian Chief. That old girl would get right down the road.donw wrote:i had a 1949 Indian with side shift/suicide clutch...that was in 1959. since then i lost track of how many motorcycles i owned.1894cfan wrote:If that Indian is called a scout, maybe it oughta be OD?

That's pretty much my plan. OD with a Eurpean Theater star on it. But I'm going to start with the Smoke/ matte black for now.1894cfan wrote:If that Indian is called a scout, maybe it oughta be OD?

Re: Time for a new two wheeler!
Never actually ridden a motorcycle.
That's one good looking bike though. As are the Victory bikes. The Harley Soft Tail I think, sits really low, is ironically, a bike that felt really "right" to me sitting on it, that I would not have thought I would like.

Yep The Octane starts out as a Scout with different styling and a little more H.P. I could make that work.CowboyTutt wrote:Check out the Victory Octane. Little bigger motor, more performance before you decide.

I'm a huge fan of the Yamaha Royal Star. It features a big V-4 liquid cooled engine that is smooth and powerful. Exhaust notes sound like a mean growl. Riding position is very comfortable.

I had one of those that I rode every time it would start. Which wasn't very often. But I loved it.stubbicatt wrote:

Re: Time for a new two wheeler!
I have an 04 Road King, and a 98 Dyna Wide Glide. My favorite is the Wide Glide.
I kind of like the Victory's and the Indians, but I don't know, it cost so much to trade and get a new bike set like I would want it. I will probably just keep my old bikes until I can't ride anymore. The great thing about Harleys is you can get parts even for the old ones, and there are plenty of independent mechanics that still work on them so I don't have to go to the stealer if I don't want to.

Re: Time for a new two wheeler!
May ruffle some feathers, but these days the best place to get a good deal on a used Harley is off an Indian/Victory dealer's trade-in lot.
I'm in awe of what Polaris has done to start the Victory line and to bring back the Indians. So far it seems gold to them.
I would have a Scout right now, but I'm still bothered by that puny 3.3 gal tank. I figure there's going to be another variation come along (blacked out long range scout?) in later production.
As far as Indian - they've got their marketing and production sights zeroed in on HD. Their latest model is the Indian Springfield - their version of the Road King.
Custom 'Army' Scout - after you get over drooling on the Thompson, check out the leather and paint details, and custom work like the rear lights
My current chrome that I covet. Indian Springfield, model just introduced.
