Pre 64 1894 parts

Hi guys, I am repairing a Winchester 1894 for a buddy. It has light primer strikes I am sure I have found the problem as the hammer spring is a leaf and can be bent by hand. I tried gun parts and brownells no flat springs for this Winchester. Does anybody have a source they like for such parts. THANKS. Tom

I got a mainspring for a set trigger from them and it worked perfectly.

I would re heat treat the existing spring. If it's not broken. Bend it to a point where it has some load on it at the rest position. Heat treat it and polish it back out.
I would suspect that gun for being in a fire at some point. A properly made spring may snap in two but they don't go soft on their own.

I'd probably order one AND heat-treat the one you have....spares won't get any easier to find in the future.

Point of clarification, Winchester dropped the 18 from 1894 in the late teens. Anything past that period would technically be a 94.

There were a couple changes to the lower tang parts, the mainsprings may be interchangeable from early production years to late pre-64 period, I don't have access to my parts at the moment to check. Knowing what period it was made may help narrow down parts if they changed over time.

I believe that all pre'64 Winchester 94s, (& 1894s), used the same mainspring with the stirrup hammer. The third picture is of a "repair kit that used to be sold for broken mainspring for the mdl 94... Here you see it installed on a PG tang. I seem to recall this tang wasn't usable for some reason or other. There's no method of lining up the tang screw, IIRC. Homestead lists an 1894 mainspring for a PG model. So, it may differ in it's profile and length. The coil spring in the 4,580,000 and above is a great feeling action. With the spring, strut, and even a pre tang safety model rebounding hammer in a like period lower tang will interchange. I've got 3 of my six project guns set up that way. The other 3 use the earlier two spring post '64 setup. That requires an pre-'64 or early post '64 lower tang.
